Prior to Christmas, Peter Rees announced that he, Asher and Ethan were selling up their entire Stockcar operation to focus on Superstocks. Asher didn't defend his NZ Stockcar title at Huntly, and the three Rees stockcars haven't been seen much this season.
Does last night's win at Gisborne change anything? If the Rees boys do indeed quit the class, good on them, especially Peter, for going out at the top. But what are the implications of that for Gisborne when it comes time to defend their title next year?
Peter Rees has done everything there is to do in Stockcars. If this weekend was his last hurrah in the class it truly is the end of an era.

Yes, that was a question a lot of people were talking about last night.
Based on past history you might think a decision is a decision - time will tell!
Definitely a big loss to the class but at least they are still out there in the Supers.
Whatever your particular view on politics and BS, it is hard to go past the fact that as a Team they are a formidable combination.
Ethan has proved to be a ruthless hitter, Asher is fast and puts in the hits, and Peter is just scary.
When he had damaged steering last night and was backed into the top of the wall at the apex of the corner, facing down across the track, you knew what was coming! Sure enough he launched straight into TWO Christchurch cars going at full pace, and took them both out.

Wasn't one of the reasons the cost of running 6 cars?
So if you where Gisborne would you not buy the 3 cars that are for sale, park them up and just let the Rees race them once a year at teams?
Would it not be a sound investment and surly you would recover your money in no time.

If the Rees were interested in helping the club next year..I'm sure they could get their hands on cars to lease.
They have a large number of clients that I'm sure would be happy to help.
It would be in the clubs best interests to help them out with this..but they have plenty of time to consider this.
I would just like to say thanks and congrats to the Rees guys..super professional and dam good at what they do..

They not worth 50g, 30-35g maybe. Maybe not to you, but after talking to a few drivers its quite easy to spend 50k on a stockcar these days. Talking to someone who enquired about these cars, around 50k was the price with a few spares. Seriously?? So if this info is correct do we still have people out there who think the Rees's are good for the sport? If 50k is what they are selling a second hand stock car for then my answer would be a very big NO. |

I find your comments rather offensive McFly towards a family that have done a huge amount for the sport we love and also are hugely generous to a lot of people racing within the sport. Are you fully aware of the cost to build one of those Tanks @ no expense spared best of everything? Also just because Pete has them listed @ $50k doesn't mean he won't cut a deal for less.. I find it interesting that in your opinion you think the cars are a bit pricey so you say the Rees are no good for the sport..hmmmm  |

I know someone who is running an older Rees chassis superstock, and was struggling with set up.
Pete saw this, and APPROACHED THEM and spent an hour or so of his own time going through the set up with them, and
It ended up like it was on rails, and 1-2 seconds a lap quicker!!
Things like that sum up what they give to the sport don't you think?

They had 50 on there last tanks and have sold or done deals for older motor and got 40. Might not be worth it but people will pay it |

The point of my statement is the whole idea of stock cars was to be a budget class. When stock cars are being built/sold for these sorts of values the people doing so are not acting with the best interests of the class. The Rees family by all accounts are great people, my comments are not personal attacks on the individuals, however I am entitled to my opinion that cars of this value belong in the superstock class. |

The "no expense spared best of everything" part of your comment is exactly why I question whether Rees Race Cars is actually good for the sport - anyone remember why this class was set up, and what its intent was?? But is the class as a whole going great guns or not. This is not a cheap class, in saying that speedway has Never been a cheap sport right from the beginning.
