That means the winner of Group A, the group that contains last year's 4th placegetter, takes on the winner of Group D, the group that contains last year's overall winner. Ditto for 2nd and 3rd. It means this year's Semi Finals are based on LAST year's form. That's why 1st vs 4th and 2nd vs 3rd from the group stage works better. It's seeding the Semi Finals based on THIS year's form. The first night has to be seeded on last year's form, but I feel the Night 2 Semi's should be seeded based on Night 1 performances. I know that's what was agreed once upon a time, pnspeed confirmed above that's what was happening this year, but it appears some years (like when there's been 11 or 13 teams) that's how it has been done, and other years a different method has been utilised. And different sources are quoting different scenarios for 2017. I guess all will be revealed come the time. Whatever the format, the best team still generally wins. Not always though, as often a car-breaking semi-final between two very good teams can leave the winning team significantly weakened for the final, meaning a nominally-weaker but full-strength opponent can get the job done. as the case in 2006. tigers got through top after quilfing. but had to face the mustrangs who quified through a very hard group las. leaving the panthers to face the scrappers. long story short higgins couldnt start the final. it isnt fool proff. but it is better i agree.

I won't actually be there this year mordecai, but I'll start planning for the 2018 event now. Knowing that I've got some free Kai owing makes the trip all the more more affordable. Barry B

kaitoa just to jog your short memory .... And what a fabulous teams race it was....the year of the golden numbers, which was ironic as the Panthers were on the receiving end of a Tiger-directed golden shower in that race (as evidenced by the local fan holding up a bottle of said product at the 4:55min mark). The Panthers really showed their class after the race too.

kaitoa just to jog your short memory .... wow didnt realise they had video back then....must have been a super 8 camera probably on Beta video....Brendan Higgins ... one of the very best would be in my team of all time, No Higgins now though Why did the Tigers do their warm up laps at the end of the race?

Barry B Hold the sauce! Mr Robertson was telling you fibs Mr Brown. Semi finals are AvD and BvC. Even with Palmy and GB ending on same points, you could suggest GB won the toss and was considered top points, and therefore it could be 1v4, and 2v3. However in the programme it has: Event 7 - 1st Group A vs 1st Group D Event 8 - 1st Group B vs 1st Group C.
