Who's the 5 ? Taniwha has given up effective immediately too... I thought he said.... From Gavin: "2017 season to be my last… Hi everyone, l thought l would let you know that l told my Gisborne Giants team mates last night that l would be retiring after this season. I am available for the Teams Nationals in Auckland, l will leave it up to them if they require me going forward. I have been fortunate to have raced Stockcars/Supers when l thought my dreams of ever doing this were not realistic. For this l must thank Peter Rees for getting me into Stockcars/Supers and Phil & Brad Ridland for the early drives, also my current Super Stock co-owner Gary Hobbs and Courtney Whyte. My crew Mini-me, Paully, Wayne, Snux, Denise, Chev, Mitch, Mum & Dad (RIP) and everyone else that has helped me at times. I have always been honest to myself and said when Speedway becomes a chore it's time to move on. It's an expensive and selfish sport (time wise) and l want to spend more time with my wife Denise, maybe travelling (I've never travelled). The head knocks in teams racing is a concern, there have been times l have come off the track and couldn't remember what happened or where my trailer was parked etc. You only get one brain and mine was already rather limited lol. Form wise, I've always said to myself, if l'm no longer in the starting line up, then the writings on the wall… So finally, thank you everyone for your support over the years, its been a blast... Gav 175 G Gavin Taniwha-Motorsport" Another post after this was that he pulled out effective immediately.

Gavin stated, After further consideration, I have pulled out of the Gisborne Giants for the Auckland Teams Nationals, my retirement will start immediately. I must apologise to the Gisborne fans, but if you are not 100% committed then there is no point going... Thank you everyone for your support over the years, it's been a blast. Gavin Taniwha

It would be good to see Bruce Harding in the Giants team in the spare Rees car. He has done a good job blocking for them in the Gladiators. Id love to see him sitting there like he does in the stockcar and see how long he lasts...? Really intelligent comment right there .. lol

I too would recommend Airport harbour view, stayed there last month when over to watch team GB,easy from the airport and a 5 minute walk along the cycle path under the bridge to the track, so you can chill and have a few beers!!

Airport Harbour View is definitely a good spot but is fully booked on teams nationals weekend.
Teams confirmed for Auckland so far are the
Manawatu Mustangs Palmerston North Panthers Gisborne Giants Rotorua Rebels Hawkes Bay Hawkeyes
TBC are the Stratford Scrappers, Baypark Busters, Wellington Wildcats and the Auckland Allstars. If last years final is anything to go by it'll be another weekend not to be missed.

From a very good source.will only be 6 teams. as with grandstand gone the promotion only can afford to pay 6 teams to appear or its not a viable business decision if get more in

I don't really think it makes a difference, just get the best 6 teams you can and go for it. Dump the crappy run off for last 2 places and run some superstock races in the show..with akl stox champs on night one and some teams races, maybe dirt cup,, itll be awesome...just see what they come up with...no point bashing the promotion, they still the best promo in speedway..just sit back and trust in them...

Waikaraka website had advertised six teams entering the teams event (minus the Rebels). Nick contacted the Waikaraka speedway and "this was an oversight on our part not sure what happened there but the Rebels are definitely in, it will be corrected" Seven teams it is!

From a very good source.will only be 6 teams. as with grandstand gone the promotion only can afford to pay 6 teams to appear or its not a viable business decision if get more in I really hope this isn't the case. It's 2017 and the size of an event is no longer limited by the size of the venue. Last year the organisation of the live stream was a shambles with a stream only being confirmed a couple of days before the event itself. The last minute confirmation minimised sales as some fans had already decided to spend their entertainment dollar elsewhere. What happens in the US is a blueprint for what we should be doing. Streams are announced well in advance with official series social media accounts and driver accounts promoting the stream in the lead-up to the event. As a speedway fan you literally can't get away from the existence of the stream. Once the stream starts, fans "tweet their seat" taking photo's of themselves watching the early stages of the stream. This acts as a reminder the stream is on whilst also showing the stream is working.
