There's a bit of difference between having money budgeted and actually possessing the cold hard cash to make it happen.
The council don't have a bank account full of money just sitting there waiting to be used on flights of fancy. Oh wait a minute, they do................it's called the rate payers

All the BS about the stand at AKL..one week the stand was chocka block with no worries at all..( fireworks night) it seemed like the very next meeting it was doomed, closed to the public and ready to fall over!! (the conversation about the stand had been going on for ages and we knew it was going to go..but it was still used for fireworks night).. What a load of old twaddle!! There's a pawn being used in this whole local govt fiasco..used to create uncertainly and division in order to shock people off their current positions...weaken everyones resolve...just shake the tree and see what falls out!! I would sit in the WP stand with out a single worry...if it was going to fall over its got such large supports it would fall over in time..not all at once... Its not the world trade center...laced with explosives for a clean take down!!!

Bruce gave everyone some great news about the old grandstand in his speech at prizegiving on Saturday night, sounds like some plans underway that will see the top reopened soon and some modifications to see the lower level decked out for corporate use. I am sure as plans gets finalized they will be made public but all in all update was really positive.

I cant wait. The Waikaraka park grandstand is awesome so if it can be reconditioned to make it safe that would be awesome. The home of speedway in Auckland ps while this is being done the track could be made wider and banked.

don't for get Rosebank (who also have noise issues)
I remember being a a kart meeting there and someone got screamed at for starting kart at 9.58am because not allowed to start engines before 10am. Yes they did get complaint as well.

For all the open wheel Jaffa zealots out there it may be a bitter pill to swallow however its makes sense why the RFA and ACC would be very pleased to see speedway gone for good, if the public's response below is an example of what will replace it going forward, particularly during summer. Like dodgy boxing promoter Don King said: If it makes dollars it makes sense. SIX60 sell out Western Springs Stadium

Not sure if it’s really relevant other than trying have a dig at speedway in Auckland , but western springs has been selling out for years for concerts with speedway still there. If anything I think it will cause more problems for cricket with there pitch and outfield moving forward

Concerts always more profitable than what speedway ever has. unfortunately crowd numbers not been fantastic since they put prices up. because if speedway had the numbers suggest otherwise then ACC would of played more effort keep it there. in same way i remember when we had sgp for three years, first year just under 15,000 then numbers gradually got worse. if speedway did have better numbers. possible would of stayed at the venue.

All may change once the new venue is built . Concerts maybe another attraction for the promoter to boost the revenue ,plus there wont be to much of problem with noise or Dust Western Springs will turn into a embarrassment for those who opposed the Springs as a Speedway icon ..
