With today being fine and forecast for Sat being a washout, it would be great to of had the final meeting of the season today being a public holiday and weather in speedway favour.
Know to suddenly change dates and get volunteers, drivers and crew together at short notice but just a thought to get the meeting in.

I've said the same thing about peter barry. When all tracks were getting rained out proir to the weekend of 23rd of march. To hold peter barry teams. Biggest problem is paramedicts getting them there. That event has now been rained out for the second time. Does leave you wondering.

Public relations ,is good to have being Anzac Day ,with a large RSA plot right next door ,what is a day in the sport of speedway to sacrifice .

I think for it to have a remote chance of being considered "good thinking", you'd of needed to have come up with the idea BEFORE the last WP meeting, so it could of beeen promoted to fans.
Even then, it's not a good idea on so many levels, one being that ANZAC Day is a lovely quiet day to remember history, and, on a lesser note, people have to work the next day.
As midway said, it'd be a PR disaster, with more complaints than you'd have spectators. I know you're very excited that 99a is back on track, and that bad weather is once again approaching, but look past the end of your own nose and suck it up. Lest we forget..

I take on board Midway and Barry B comments.
Looking beyond my nose, from 1pm Anzac day becomes a normal commercial day as per NZ law, therefore holding the meeting after 1 pm has given time to respect our fallen soldiers[ I attended Dawn parade as usual] . I CAN NOT see the quote cause more complaints than spectators as it is in the commercial time zone as per NZ law. As for work next day, how many team racing and postponed meetings fall into that category .
Warriors v's Storm today at AAMI Park Melbourne, using Anzac clash as heading, no noise come from the stadium due to being Anzac day and traffic woes ?.
I personally have more beef with super rugby and club rugby being played on the most sacrificial days of the year and by law NONE COMMERCIAL, GOOD FRIDAY AND EASTER SUNDAY PLUS SPEEDWAY CLUBS HOLD MEETINGS on these days and no beef from the two objectors above.

We were only asked about/talking about ANZAC Day. The biggest issue is that you suggested it on THE DAY. As I said in my original post, to be a realistic suggestion it needed to be made a week ago minimum, more likely a month ago, to allow staff, competitors and spectators an opportunity to be ready if they wanted to attend. My comment about more complaints than spectators refers to that thought, and that thought alone. Very few members of the paying public would turn on such a day, with only a few hours notice just due to a weather forecast. And yes, meetings do run with work the next day, usually due to rainouts etc. Different bag of bolts. That can't be helped, and these are usually big meetings. If they're not big meetings with lots of travelling spectators and competitors, clubs normally just pull the pin if it rains and don't move over to the next day. I don't believe a club night with work the next day would pull the fans at all. Barry B |

To be honest fantastic idea. To make it special do the following also.
1 Have the vintage/ historic Stock Cars, Saloons, Modifieds / sprint cars ect midgets on show and demonstration races on the night. Note grand parade would be 4.30 start a start time of the event being 5.00pm
2 Veterans, gold card holders free entry. Veterans/ Gold card holding ex drivers also hot dog chips and drink free.
3 Speed fest would be the weekend either before or after Anzac day. Which ever is closest to Anzac day. That way the cars that travel will already be in the area.

Next year ANZAC day is on a Thursday you could organise it well in advance nakifans but what would you then say/do if the forecast is for rain and the previous Saturday night was fine?

Next year ANZAC day is on a Thursday you could organise it well in advance nakifans but what would you then say/do if the forecast is for rain and the previous Saturday night was fine? In this case they did run the previous Sat, but why not calendar in for the likes of this Anzac day midweek meeting and rain date Sat, gives two chances then of running the meeting. This may be a one off year where the mid week meeting would go and weekend one rained off if forecast correct, have the possibility of both days wet or fine but just doubles the chances of running a meeting. Only my thoughts. As can be seen on a previous thread by an RSA President , NO disrespect to our fallen soldiers by holding after 1pm. 4 or 5 pm start gets meeting done and dusted and this time of year not the heat problems of summer for the track prep. Most other Stat holidays fall on a Fri or Mon so doesn't have this flexibility . If Herald article, Sun To Set On Western Springs, from 019/20 season to get thru all the proposed meetings with both tracks racing at WP, and our inclement weather during our summer, will pencilled in mid week meetings become the norm and which club gets the track preference the one that's been there the longest or the one that brings in the most spectators but that will be another thread as this one is re Anzac meeting . |

Queens Birthday Weekend . Two Days racing and close to 100 odd races and they normally get all the racing in. A great weekend usually |

Ramjam they dont get 10000 but they get a not bad crowd. Go have a look and yes it is a bit agricultural but everyone is having a great time. I highly recommend you go and have a look you will have a great time. Ps I am from Auckland.
