Lol, Yep heard that lots myself . Im pretty sure they do but be prepared for them to throw a rod out the side of the block. Standard is standard , they were designed for a road car and im pretty certain they werent meant to pull 8/9k out on the highway. Met up with a guy recently who run standard Toyotas, had 3 x blocks sitting outside his shed that had all let go, he now runs a worked Toyota engine. Personally i would be getting arp bolts put through the bottom end first off. Im no Toyota V8 expert but only going by what guys have experienced.

Mine is pretty standard, running Arp rod bolts and using acusump. Running Older CSL Cams and Heads with danby Inlet manifold. Probably 7000-7500 rpm and has been reasonably reliable. I run an electromotive ignition system and coil packs Car doesnt get a lot of use but Terry has been able to have a lot of fun in it over a number of years hope this helps regards Jeff

yep the first engine i ran in my topgear had a std bottom end pistons rods apart from arp bolts but was dry sumped .rev chiped to 8600 and used to be hard on the limiter at straights end. i even got knocked out one night with throttle jammed on full and we calculated that it was pulling close to 10 grand as that was were ignition was cutting out completely for a good 38 seconds . darcey hunter drove it the next weekend and cleaned up .

Haha what a great story
Sad to hear it’s for sale Steiny.
Have you got a feel for the cost of putting together a stock ish motor like that? And curious who did heads and cams for you, as car was still super fat with that set up I thought
