The Wanganui Stockcar and Speedway Club has received sad news this morning. Life Member George Duncan passed away peacefully this morning, after a short illness. George was a fiercely competitive driver, who earned the nickname Bruiser. Between 1979 and 1998 he was a regular in the Wanganui Warriors, being part of the first Warriors team to beat the Panthers in Palmerston North. Running as 23V, his blue A30 bodied car followed by a Tank were iconic Wanganui Stockcars. In later years George served as crew chief for son Scott, firstly in the 23V Tank, followed by an ex-Adrian Barnes car.The Duncans then purchased a Rees spaceframe, Scott's present car. George also drove the Duncan Racing bus, purchased a few seasons ago from Gerry Linklater. The Club extends its most sincere condolences to George's wife Denise, to Scott, Michelle, Caleb and Isaac and to Kylie, Daniel and Lucas in their loss, which we all share. George was a true Warrior, and will be greatly missed by everyone in the speedway fraternity. PS: George was notoriously camera-shy, so these photos of him with the restored 23V Tank are extra-special.

Gee what a shock another legend gone to heaven but they don't have teams racing up there,We have lots of memories of George in the early days of racing at Wanganui. I purchased Georges old blue 23v Stockcar back in the eighties and that raced out of Te Marua under RD AUTO WRECKERS painted green and was driven by Graham Robertson as 88w so thanks for a great car.You will be missed by all. Thanks heaps for the memories.
