It is with a heavy heart that I am very sad to say that my good mate Karl Holloway (Karlos) passed away suddenly on Sunday morning. I have been talking with Tony Stuart and The Wanganui Stockcar and Speedway Club extends its sincere condolences to all Karl's family and friends. He will be sadly missed. "Karl raced the 81V ex-Jayson Palamountain Superstock before son Max took over the drive last season. Karl was immensely proud of Max's progress in the 81V car. His middle son Corey has been driving the 81V Youth Ministock since Max graduated to the Superstock." Karl will be remembered as a man who loved his speedway and always loved and supported his family and his children Max, Keylen, Tinisha and Corey, he was willing to talk to anybody and was always happy and up for a laugh. I will miss you a great deal bro. Rest in peace Karlos.

I didn't know Karl as well as you Pete, but he was certainly passionate about speedway and motorcycles. He took great pride in what his boys were doing on the track, and was rapt at how well Max did last year at his first NZ Superstocks in Auckland.
Karl lived life at 100mph, and his death will leave a massive hole in the lives of those close to him, especially his children. Rest peacefully Karlos.

Fantastic words of respect, Mana and support from Wayne Hemi tonight. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping Max be able to continue racing Superstocks: "As many of you may be aware, a fellow driver and young member of the sport, Max Holloway suddenly lost his dad on Sunday, a time when the majority of us were watching Bathurst. He was not just his dad, he was his crew chief, his pillar and the man that supported him during his whole racing life. The loss of his father would be immeasurable and our hearts go out to Max and the rest of his friends and family. Personally and as a team, I have people who have supported and remained loyal fans from the get-go, there are also rivalries and people who dislike each other for their own reasons, but overall we are a strong and loyal community who support each other through the good and the bad. To me, Speedway is a family. Our speedway family has evolved throughout the 30 years I have been involved. Having spent 2 years on the Wellington speedway committee, however I've not being involved within the SNZ board or been a committee member, I want to give back to the sport which myself and all of the Red Waka team love so dearly. It’s from the immense support received during my career that I have thought long and hard about how we can support Max in these tragic circumstances. I strongly feel we as a racing community, a family, need to put our opinions aside and pull together to support one of our own. Together we can make a real impact and support this young driver with the continuation of his superstock career. There are many kids, teenagers and young adults who rely heavily on their parents to be able to go racing within all race classes, from ministocks right through to superstocks. I would personally hate for someone like Max to be denied opportunities to continue the sport he loves. We need to make an invaluable contribution for Max and any young driver in the future who is stuck by tragedy and difficult times, by getting them back on track and each of us representing the sport by giving a little bit. There are many ways we can all help, here are just some, donation of used parts we don’t need (wheels, tires, axles, steel, wings etc.), those of us with own businesses who can provide a little sponsorship, or a contribution (fuel, tires, steel, accommodation) to keep the car on the track, or a nominal donation to a trust currently being setup. In anticipation of the generosity the racing community is known for, a trust account is being set up for Max’s racing future, once we have the confirmed account details we will update this post, so stay tuned. All donations will go directly to Max to ensure he continues in the sport he loves. If you have parts, sponsorship or other ideas you wish to put towards helping Max please reach out to us or directly to Max, Carl or Shawn as we'll be more than happy to organise collection of these parts where needed and together we can formulate further plans or programs for the future of the juniors in the sport. I’ve reached out to Carl & Shawn who are working hard in supporting Max and approved in my support. Again our deepest sympathies, love and support go out to Max and his family." "Red Waka 591 581 & 571 Motorsports Rachel Hemi.... I've known a lot of people in my life and Max Holloway was one of the few that gave Jayme as lot of time and advice.... that time and advice was priceless..... my heart breaks for Max and his family .so I'm pledging the first $2000.00 to Max" Kindest Regards Wayne Hemi Red Waka Motorsport * This post has lifted my spirits in what has been a extremely sad and painful time for lots and lots of people. Thank you Wayne, your kindness will never be forgotten. By knowing that Max, his younger brothers Keylen and Cory, and his younger sister Tenesha are not alone will help ease their grief and their pain, and that of other family members and friends of Karls too. It is a testament to Max's character that he is fulfilling the role as Karls oldest Son so humbly and has made the time to reply and thank just about everybody who has messaged him at this extremely difficult time. Karl's funeral will take place at the Hell's Angels Clubrooms in Wanganui on Saturday morning. After the service, his casket will be taken out to Oceanview for a final lap of honour.
Competitors are welcome to park their cars on the infield as a mark of respect to Karl. WSSC President Daryl James has asked that cars be in place by 10am, after which the facility will be locked up so cars are secure during the funeral.

From Max Holloway today: "For the many of people that have been asking for the place and time of dads (Karl’s) funeral, we are having it on Saturday 13th, this coming Saturday, we will be having it at the Wanganui Hells Angels club house, 42 Kaikokopu Road Wanganui. We feel this is where we feel dad would want be sent off from as the club has been a massive part of his life and it gives many of his brothers he very much respected at the club to give there last words and goodbyes, this will be held by Dempsey & Forrest funeral directors, the service will start at 11am, once we have heard all the memories and stories from dads life and the service ends we will be doing a big convoy out to the OceanView Speedway. We thank Daryl for opening up the track to give dad one last run round the track as speedway was such a massive part of his life and a passion he sheared all his family and friends in the last 5-10 years ! Once we have finished at speedway we will be doing another convoy back through town up to the cemetery, we have managed to locate a spot next to one of his close brothers from the club “Shane Bullock” earlier this year that had a big impact on dads life. Now he is as rest and we thank everyone for their love and support we as a family have been truly blown away is is all very appreciated! Everyone is more then welcome to come to the funeral to celebrate “Karl Philip Holloway’s” life that he lived to the very fullest!! - Me, Keylan, Corey, tenesha and the family would love to see you all there ! You will be truely missed by many dad, always had a massive impact on everyone’s lives that you knew, we will meet again one day until then Rest In Peace Dad !

Red Waka 591 581 & 571 Motorsports: "I'm currently in Auckland extremely busy and will post a new post with these details when I get home on the weekend but what an awesome response for Max Holloway in this difficult period which hopefully will assist him with his racing this season. I have been provided the new Trust bank account for those willing to donate a little bit of money to help support the campaign": Max Holloway Motorsport BNZ 0207920101124002 software screenshotI went down and saw our mate Chad Ace at Ace Performance this morning to thank him for his great efforts in support of getting Max Holloway back out there racing the 81v Superstock. Max's engine arrived at Chad's shop "in a million pieces" and Chad has worked tirelessly putting it back together, fine tuning a few things, and adding some Ace Performance touches. "It'll go like the clappers" Chad said. The engine will make some beautiful noise on the dyno tomorrow and I'll post a video of it pulling some revs tomorrow. I liked Wayne Hemi post when he alluded to the fact that in our sport competitors race hard, there are some staunch rivalries, and the fans have their hero's and villains, but when one of the speedway family is suffering such as Max and his team are, everyone bands together in a way that is unequaled in most sports. There are many people who have stepped up in support of Max and in due course all will be recognized and thanked with great appreciation, and love. "Top Show" as my mate would say to all of you. Cheers Chad L&R, Pete

And while Chad has been getting the 81V engine running, the rebuilt chassis has had a fresh coat of paint, and will be ready and waiting when the motor comes back late tomorrow: So many people have been so generous with their time, expertise and cash. It has been truly humbling to see the outpouring of support for Max. And all going well, 81V will be at Karl's funeral on Saturday morning. The speedway family rocks

An astonishing effort by the NZ speedway family to have the 81v Superstock rebuilt and fired up for Karl Holloways funeral service in Wanganui today! The service reflected Karls three loves - his family, his speedway and his motorcycle club and was attended by hundreds of people from far and wide. Max Holloway and his family are lost for words to express their immense appreciation enough, but its an effort that everyone involved with can be exceptionally proud of when Max hits the track on opening night at Fast Lane Spares Oceanview Speedway next Sunday. Go hard Max - rest in peace Karlos. Max Holloway in the white helmet on his Dads bike leads Karl down the hill away from Oceanview Speedway for the final time.
