Anyone else seen Dirt track this month?
Really interesting segment in “you may have missed”
A driver pulled from a teams race while leading (against the home team) for having an open face helmet?!
I havnt raced for 3 years, but last time I checked they still check the helmet before racing ...
I’m hoping this sort of stuff is settled before the NZ title in a couple of weeks.
Sheesh
It’s in Dirt track so I expect there to be some validity to the claim.
Anyone else hear/see/know about this?

I think he had googles which became dislodged (fell off) after a hit.

He was using a motorcross style helmet with goggles. Took or gave a hit and goggles fell off and was unable to locate them to put them back on.
In this day and age of Health and safety racing around with no eye protection isn’t ideal

I've seen this happen many times before infront of main Grandstand at Palmy teams...the car/driver was never removed

Still seems a little bit vague?
So was it for having open faced helmet, or googles fell off?
Or is it because googles fell off, helmet became open faced, and that was deemed illegal ?

Correct, with NO eye protection the helmet is/was basically open faced. So deemed Illegal (unsafe) I wonder why with drivers spending such a huge amount of money on their cars, why they just dont buy a helmet designed for car racing rather than motorcross

From an interview done with Pete it was a local Chch rule... as like the Giants said its no different to racing with a visor up... Ive seen a couple drivers this season with openface and just sunglasses racing no goggles, old school Mr Ward style... Cant be illegal widjem as they dont check goggles at gearcheck, well ive never been asked for mine nor checked my visor and nothing in rule book..? But Pete did state in the interview it is something he will be asking at driver breifing to clear it up.

No local rule its in the rule book S3-5a. Unfortunately the goggles where lying on the track while ashers car was getting checked after he rolled. Every car was checked to find out who's they were.

Hi kinder Thanks for the insight mate, and all the best for the big event. Love it when rules can be posted that clear it up. I’m sure there will be some goggle wearers thinking about locking a second pair in the car in case of emergency! Why do you wear goggles? I always did because for the life of me I couldn’t stop my visor fogging up. Too much heavy breathing come race time!

Although can remember getting woken up on the start grid one time, was that relaxed, nodded off waiting for something.

I preferred motorcross style helmet with googles. Way more comfy and more air flow. And I use to pull googles off put them around my neck brace sometimes while teams racing so I could see properly and got a real good view.
