So what was the go with last non qualifier all in race? The non qualifiers were into groups that did 2 heats each to find 30 cars for 1 race final. 1vs2 and 3vs4, then 1vs3 and 2vs4 sort of thing. But doing that meant they only got about 17 cars to start because of mechanical issues. Was a good idea but when I first saw it on Friday... you knew it wasnt going to work.

Why did the other drivers let a Rees and Joblin get on the podium?
Are drivers not sick of the same old in this class?
As for the lap after lap before gridding up. For farks sake get in your grid in the pits, do a lap and start the race. Its not formula one. This is why meetings at the Glen take so long.FFS!

12am finish really?π‘. Tracks run to many classes time and time again. Fast racing 3rd heat a non event apart from 31p getting dealt too. Beats me these people whinging about late finishes.I go to watch the event and couldnt care less what time if finished so long as i see all of the racing . Nothing stopping you from going home if its getting past your bedtime. lol Thats exactly what I did, bailed as soon as the third heat was done, straight out of the carpark before the jam started. The reason I didn't take my young fulla is because knew it would be a shambles time wise. The first heat didn't even start till like 8.45 WTF is up with that?

So after my first visit to Woodford Glen I'm left with mixed emotions on the experience... What worked? - reserved seating was great. I loved being able to actually pick our seats on the iticket website. - no alcohol policy. Was awesome to not be surrounded by a group of people off their face and instead around people who were just having a good time being there to watch the racing. - car parking was effecient and it emptied a lot quicker than I thought it was going to. - the unique style of track led to great racing.
What didn't work? - we were in the grandstand so couldn't hear most of the commentary. It's vital that the punter can hear what's going on. What's more frustrating is it seems like WG knew there were issues with sound levels but ignored it and thought it wouldn't matter? - there weren't enough toilet facilities. Would have been great to see a load of portaloos put down on the grass area inside the gate or something. - commentary... one bit I did hear while I was around turn 3 waiting for food made my jaw drop... The commentator asked if the cars that get DNFs still get points... wow... That didnt leave me with much confidence! - repercharges should be run before any other race and I believe should be run around 6:30. The first heat of the NZ champs should follow pretty closely to those repercharges.. we got heat 1 just after 8:30 which is just way too late. - all classes doing about 10 slow laps before gridding up for each race also made the night go on much longer than it needed to.
All in all I enjoyed visiting a new track and the racing itself I was happy with. Roll on Wanganui 2020!

Many of these clubs need to go to Rotorua and learn how to run a meeting , they run some fairly large meetings at times [ 240.s for instance ] and the knack they have of putting these meetings on is a credit to them. As one class heads out the gates to the pits the next class is ready to roll out on the track. Very seldom is anyone sitting around waiting for the next race . It is all about organisation and having a good team of people with their finger on the pulse .

Go the Bay. The Rees all attacked the wrong car. No. They wonβt attack one of their own. Just spoke to Pete. He referred to Jason as a good mate and deserved to win. Yes sounds like the son's were instructed not to touch Long and the title would be decided on a flag race between Pete & Jason with the youngster Just to quick during the 3 races. World 240's will be good with 31P sure to even things a bit.

Meetings should have no need to go past 1030/11 let alone midnight. Usually tracks that are running behind cut support class races short etc or scrap them.

All in all I enjoyed visiting a new track and the racing itself I was happy with. Roll on Wanganui 2020! Agree with pretty much all off what you have put here , Was my first time here and i did enjoy it , Down side was the repocharge's starting on a poor track to start with, should off had all the cars wheel packing , feel sorry for the drivers it just become's pot luck .The result on point's going into the last race and so many Peter Ree's motorsport built cars it played out how i expected, My Opinion was pete would off told his crew not to touch Jason Long being a giant last year, and a client and the best driver will win Unfortunate for pete he had the 2 levine boy's directly in front off him for a large part off the race so he played it safe and just maintained his position , There's a lot off agro between the ChCh guy's that,s for sure,The 1st heat fall out i thought was a lot in part to do with them two , but that's Stockcar racing and it set's the rest off the season up for some good viewing

From that comment I learnt that non co tact get points for not finishing. Contact get no points for not finishing. Who else knew that. I got a shock at new zealand saloons when Dnfs were getting points. Now I know. It's been like that for a long long time now. It's to stop the likes of a Super Saloon driver from carrying on with a flat tyre to grab a few championship points, but just being a general nuisance to those still racing at speed. They now pull off the track out of harms way, and get DNF points in the order they drop out. Those with long (excuse the pun Jason) memories will remember Peter Sloman circulating Meeanee with a flat tyre at the 1992/93 NZ Super Saloon title, and Lance Jennings, who was looking all-over the champion that year, clipping him and firing up the concrete and out of contention. I think it was reviewed and changed to DNF points soon after that, so about 25 years although it might of been tweaked slightly since? I don't think the contact classses have ever had DNF points, EVER. Barry B

My original post was to raise the issue of the completely substandard sound system, but it has steered towards many subjects, which is all good and revitalised some healthy discussion on Macgors. Tony T, years ago we had lot of common ideas on improving speedway, yet when issues at your track has been raised by myself, you resort to shooting the messenger, which is exactly why little or no progress is made. You see us as a threat rather than a solution. Typical kiwi attitude. I didn't attack your work, > couldn't hear it!) I raised the issue of spectators being left way short. I hope you'll take from all the replies, that these aren't just my issues, and I'm not a sour grumpy person. I got into commentating purely because, as a Speedway fan from the age of 2 (Tony Baker was my hero), I realised the only way to improve the substandard offering to spectators was to step up, and combine my love of the sport with what I've learned in a career of television. I'm definitely not a macgorian, nor an anorak. As far as commentary for the spectators goes - you cannot effectively satisfy both track spectators and the livestream with one team, BUT, you can come close if you have very good commentators and their commentary can drive the coverage, rather than a director. Others have failed in the past with this because their camera people couldn't even hear the commentary. There's a reason television broadcasters use dedicated audio returns to the broadcast crew. But let's remember, 6 to 7 thousand people at track paying $30 versus 1 k plus on livestream - why would you prioritise the livestream? Only one reason, and it's my pet hate. And if you have that equipment and take all the sponsors money, why don't they get a video feed or even speakers into the corporate boxes? We do that all the time for motor racing. Why weren't the top 3 on the infield for the presentation & photos? That becomes park ferme, so no issue with post race scrutineering. Does no one watch F1 or Supercars. My god Speedway is so unprofessional, yet people spend gazillions on their race cars - go figure! So much to improve upon. The most embarrassing thing of all, and what proves beyond doubt the point I'm trying to make, was that the clubrooms microphone & PA was not only abysmal, but failed completely during the presentations! And this is not solely a Woodford Glen issue. Do we really think that little of our champions and sponsors?! I'm actually lost for words. I tried my darnedest to get the WP commentary position returned to its original position last season, but hit brick wall after brick wall. Being on the roving mic I'm hardly in that commentary booth, so it wasn't affecting me directly, but a Comm booth that can't see the whole track, and is away from official results flow etc, simply isn't good enough. Hence my almost complete withdrawal from commentating. How hard is it to spend some money and effort on those things. Lastly, a massive thanks to Colin Ashton, for his hospitality and brilliant company the past 2 nights. No more bashing my head against the wall. A few meetings I've committed to this year, and then it's time move on. Sadly not the Super Saloons my brother is the major sponsor of, as that woud have been cool to do that for him, but I'll be able to return the favour to Colin and have more laughs, over a barbie and beers Final words... the champagne spray was absolute gold in everyway!
Love my Speedway on a Saturday night.

I dont follow non contact classes heavily but seen a bunch of north island new zealand and g.ps across saloons and supers in that time. And never once knew. Even the b.o.p championship recently with Brad lane. Had me going what. So I'm glad a commentator actually explained that to me. Because wellington, meeanee rotorua palmy all haven't.

Given the comments on here, I am getting the feeling that Speedway in NZ is a huge self-licking ice-cream, that consistently re-runs lessons learnt year upon year. Pretty sad really given how many dollars are sunk in to it each year.
