Does anyone have any idea of who might have qualified tonight. Or been close to getting points up dates or anything. It's like a big dark hole of information...

As we left the Commentary booth, they announced over the pit PA, that group 2 heat 2 official results were posted! Be fair to say lots of Lapscoring issues.

credit where credit due. they got in every race. peoples biggest fear coming in. Certainly wasn't looking like it at half 8. Very little action in all of the 3rd heats certainly helped. The lack of action was probably a combination of no-body having confirmed official points for most groups and big points on offer even if starting of the back with missing cars. GOOD ON THEM FOR GETTING IT DONE. Really only showed true urgency when it got to half 9. Should previous heats points not be official before the next heat for that group comes out? There is no way this could happen tonight, but is there a rule about it? I was walking the pits after the meeting and they were still posting amended points for one of the 1st heats. Commentators were on a hiding to nothing trying to keep us up to date even though they tried their best to sort it out themselves

Some commentators going to have to eat Humble pie after blasting the Woodford Glen commentary team at the NZ superstocks. Don't blame the computer.

Some commentators going to have to eat Humble pie after blasting the Woodford Glen commentary team at the NZ superstocks. Don't blame the computer. There's a slight difference in having the information and not sharing it, and not actually having the information due to it being unobtainable. Hopefully retuning the loops and some other work being done on the system overnight cures the problems encountered last night. It'd be most disappointing not to be able to rely on the information on screen again for the 3 championship races tonight. Any good at lap scoring Beachboy?

I thought the commentators did a magnificent job last night keeping us as up to date as they could given the information they had

A good tradesmen never blames his tools Barry, were you or Malcolm in the com box at Woodford Glen to know what info they had? I just feel you and Malcolm owe Woodford Glen an apology or need to roast the Baypark promotion the same way you did them. People have commented on here that BP have had ELS issues all season so to quote you in your comments about the WFG event "So they knew about this problem well before this meeting got underway".
Just to remind you Below are some of the posts you guys made about the NZ superstocks at WFG It is totally unacceptable that in 2019 we are yet again having a discussion about substandard commentary, points updates and a sound system that is clearly from the dark ages and completely substandard. It's really simple - if you're going to host a NZ title (or any meeting for that matter) and you're happy to take people's hard earned money off them, the least you can do is provide the expected services. A PA with enough volume, commentators who understand and deliver what is expected at a championship. Info and updates and so. Eine adjusting the volume all night according to track action/sound level. This is why our sport never goes forward. The paying spectators are vary rarely treated with the disserved respect. Gimmicks like a helicopter drop in in are waste of time. Do the basics right first. Had zero idea last night of what was going on at our biggest championship. Its simply not good enough. This has been going on for 30 years or more! Sad,angry and dumbfounded. Not at the track myself so cannot comment too much, but I imagine those in the stands along the back straight pay extra for those seats? They've been there for quite a few seasons now? And WG has admitted there's a speaker shortfall in that part of the track. So they knew about this problem well before this meeting got underway. So my question is, how fair and ethical is it to knowingly shortchange those that pay the most to attend? Those paying extra for those reserved seats are likely the biggest fans of the sport, and deserve extra in return, not less. I'd also suggest that telling people to move, in what should be a full house tonight, is hardly practical either. All that's going to do is annoy two groups of people. Not a direct dig at WG, because other tracks have problems with inadequate sound systems too. And information flow. Malcolm, you've raised a very valid point or two though. Back in the pre-ELS days we had to work so hard to keep people up to date, with one person eyes on track calling all cars across the line at race end while another person wrote them down as fast as possible. Then points were allocated to those finishing positions, the maths on sub-totals or totals done and unofficial points, top to bottom in program order, were done after maybe announcing the top 3. Then there was race analysis from that information, who had made the most moves, both up and down the field, and how that related to their starting grids in Heat 3. Who was looking good. Who was in trouble. Who to watch. The importance of each relevant pass. This should of gotten easier with the advent of ELS, but sometimes it seems like we are going backwards. Barry B

I don't owe Woodford Glen an apology, and in other posts on here I've said "you can't hide the fact that"......then listed all of Baypark's failings including the ELS. And yes, it does appear they their ELS has been problematic in the past - I don't know, I wasn't there - so in that case if it was a known fault that was unacceptable too.
The single biggest point that people have made about the WG information flow was when during a red light in Heat 3 they said something along the lines of "we know who is leading but we're not going to tell you".
Stop trolling or take a summer holiday. Even jimmyj is better behaved than you this season.

You say it was "a black hole of information" Mintie. I'm assuming you didn't go to the track or buy the live stream? To be fair you wouldn't have got anything official from those sources either, but was just wondering where you were looking to find said black hole? Barry B

^ Between turn 3&4 against the wall is where the hole was that swallowed the info on night 1. On night 2 the hole was fixed and the info was better. PS Not trolling just keeping the Mod's honest and fair. I must say I did feel privileged when you used my quote similar to "don't blame the computer" on night 2 Barry.

Barry B neither Barry I had to work and had Huntly Saturday so was relying on what I could glean from Web sites and texts.. Tough old Friday night for you guys with limited results and you are stuck in the middle. I wanted to also try and feed the qualifiers into to the radio network for their local morning sports shows. I was trying to remember how we did it before electronics but then there wasn't Internet, flash mobile phones, facebook and other things that now delivers us the desire for instant information. You went to the track as a spectator and watched it to get results and we relied on the manual lap scoring and what we called and wrote down ourselves. And the results were given out when we got them.

You went to the track as a spectator and watched it to get results and we relied on the manual lap scoring and what we called and wrote down ourselves. And the results were given out when we got them. Before the ELS I had a heap of pre-printed sheets to try and do lap scoring, results and points to get information, hopefully accurate, out to the public before the official results came through ahead of the manual lap scoring. The non contact classes were relatively easy, the contact classes more complex so we'd often only have the top part of the field right, but we also never tried to do 36 car fields. But we went there knowing that we were going to try and do it ourselves, and were prepared for it. Of course with the advent of ELS we don't cart such stuff around with us anymore. Sometimes we wouldn't even worry about the points in Heat 3, but just count the cars between the relevant combatants to know who was a point up, a point down or equal on points. Of course you have to have Heats 1 & 2 confirmed and accurate for that to work. It wasn't limited results on Friday night. We had plenty of results. It's just that they were still changing several hours after each race!! But of course we didn't know that at the time. It was only after the maths didn't tally with the screens as the second heats were raced that we realised there was a problem. But of course we didn't know how big the problem was until well after racing concluded. I saw one race where a driver originally credited with 13th ended up 18th. Five other cars were elevated above him in various changes, due to dropped laps. It all added to the drama of qualifying, but it was a drama we didn't need. All one can ask is that we as a sport learn every time something like this happens, and do everything that we can to ensure we don't keep repeating past mistakes. Speedway hasn't been very good at that over the years. Barry B

Barry, do you think that maybe it’s time to move away from the current ELS and try something different. Surely the other codes of racing don’t have the same issue week in and week out. What does the Toyota racing series use? Or Hampton downs? It might be time that we globally agree that the Dorian system has run its race

What does the Toyota racing series use? Or Hampton downs? It might be time that we globally agree that the Dorian system has run its race I'm no expert, but I believe there's nothing wrong with the current system if it's properly maintained and the staff are properly trained. I suspect retuning the loops should be done prior to any major meeting as another one of the jobs that just has to be done, just like printing the programme or opening the gates. Even if there hasn't been problems leading up to the title it's better safe than sorry. Tracks need the right computers, and staff the right training. Baypark had installed a lot of new computers just prior to the event, but hadn't, as I understand it, retuned the loops and some other things that maybe should of been done as regular mantainance. But it's up to somebody with a lot more knowledge of the system than me to know exactly what is required to make the system 100%. There are so many cogs to the wheel, including the drivers themselves having their transponders fully charged at all times. So whether it was a system failure or a people failure, or a combination of, I cannot say. Barry B

It might be time that we globally agree that the Dorian system has run its race most of the rest of the motorsport in the country use AMB transponders and programmes, (as with the rest of the world) . (mylaps, speedhive, Orbits are some of their brand names) its what western springs use, but as per the Dorian system, if its not maintained, or the correct training not given to the operators, it can go wrong as well, also, dust and computers dont go well together, so that would mean more maintenance, and with stock cars esp, the hits may damage the on board transponders easier than most other forms of motorsport

Easy to run and a nice small transponder. speedhive.mylaps.com/
