The 77s versus 8c take-no-prisoners rivalry was great fun to watch.

If we are talking old School and no one class in particular it has to be Murray Worboys in his iconic TZ Yamaha TQ.....Seen here chasing down 21 Len Gardner. That era of racing was the pinnacle of the golden age for Open Wheel racing.

Mod 46c was correct as we did pipe Peter into the pits in Dunedin that day. We walked in front with a banner that read "Woodsy walks on water". I believe that video of it does exist. Regrettably the piper on that day, Stewart Sinclair (brother of Cathy Black) is no longer with us. Think thats about right as the memory dims.

Blondie , Muzza Gorgde could he peddle those creations fearless. The stratford classes back in the day had class drivers in all grades Agree with Conrod, the early years of Stratford most certainly had class drivers in all classes , the legends from Palmerston N , Big Bad Charlie, Ray New etc who came up and always gave the locals a hiding were always a crowd pleaser and drew large no's of loyal local fans who were very vocal in their disapproval of the treatment being dished out to their locals. Prior to the opening of Stratford the Waiwakaiho track[ now the Valley shopping centre ] was full of legends in the open class and bikes. Americans competed there regularly . Forest Lake in Hamilton in the 70's had it fair share of legends in saloons, Campbell, Baker, Redfern and Duayne Plummer in stockcars to name a few. These tracks got the disease into my veins which 50 yrs on is still there. One of the true legends of the sport would have to be Lance Jennings. An unsung legend would have to be John Rae of NP, he imported and leased out sprintcars and turned the scene around from dressed up modifieds to what we have today. While we think of legends of the sport as the drivers the many chassis builders over the years who have moved the sport forward need a mention. Grant Reid super saloons and Simbo[ Keith Simpson] in stockcars/ sprintcars are worthy listings of old school favourites.

Ian Carlyle in the 1m Morries Lunch Bar/Bayfair/Farmer Jones sponsored car circa 1992/1993 season was my old favourite. Remember the Dash for Cash (50 lap??) stockcar races too at the old baypark. Dutchy rolling out in that wickard low slung kuriger, All the old dream team busters guys. Clark ''the canman'' Proctor was always a great watch and some epic hits. Plus the Matamata vs Mount boys streetstock battles.
