Looking at speedway live points for Stratford if correct Newton Gordge won the Rusty Kay memorial for Modifieds. Lance Jennings won the Dash For Cash & Feature in the recent DVS series. Son also competes. Ray Jordan { 74 y.o.} competes in the DVS series in the ex Blondie Mazda. Grandson also competes. Ray Chatfield { 78 y.o.} competes very competitively in the modified class. Son and Grandson in superstocks and stockcars. These older folk most certainly keep the younger guns on their toes. This pattern would be thru out the country in all class's and hopefully more names get added to this thread to show it not just a younger generation sport.

WELL,, LAWN BOWLS CAN GET PRETTY EXCITING AT TIMES WHEN QUALITY PARTICIPANTS ARE IN ACTION..if the old boys are rocking it, that can only be a good measure to the safety improvements in the sport, the betterment of the handling of race vehicles..and the confidence older racers have in the support structure at the club they race at, ie fire, ambo, etc

when Kerry Brocas won the NZ sprintcar a couple of years ago was in late 50s, has to be closest to oldest person to win a National Title

I think the bigger issue is getting younger spectators. Not many of the 50 years and younger in the stands these days. In some cases entry fee and food prices may be the issue.

Rolling back the decades, I can remember one of my faves was a certain Clive Elliott, and he’s still showing a lot of wannabe’s just how it’s done!!! Good on yah Clive and thanks for the memories both of old and even the new ones now.

I think the bigger issue is getting younger spectators. Not many of the 50 years and younger in the stands these days. In some cases entry fee and food prices may be the issue. Entry fee and cost of a hot dog are never the issue. Planning can surmount anything, specially if it's one or two or three top meetings and the mates pop round and chip in for the stream when ya cant go...ppl piss 50 bucks down the hole at the pub regularly and then complain the stockcars are too expensive at 25 bucks... maybe we should charge them all 30 bucks and give them 2 hotdogs free...make em feel like they're winning. Opariu, Im with you. if families really cant afford the stockies we should have a whole thing running so families can get a night out, when dad was dying of cancer ..a night out would have done us all some good.. what about kids who have never seen stockies...sick kids..a night out under the lights... there must be so much we could do..
