I guess the poor old rep for this class at WP is running around like a blue rrse fly trying hard to get the numbers up . Lets hope he gets plenty of support from his club mates ,as the promoters will be buried into there favourite class of Dodgem racers ..

Bit less of the "old" thank you very much. A young fella in a shop last week asked me if I had a Gold Card, had to put him in his place as well!!!!!
Confirmed entries for the Mod GP are as follows
1NZ - Brad Lane 2NZ - Blair McPhee 3NZ - Luke Brown 6A - Dave Williams 11a - Jamie Fox 12S - Jason Kalin 17W - Jonas England 21H - Gary Parker 21S - Newton Gordge 46H - Ryan Turner 52H - Jordan Hunter 63A - Daniel Crumpe 67S - Bunter Pierce 71S - John Jackson 78A - Ray Chatfield 78S - Shaun Bloeman 97H - Sean Barrack
And possibly one or two more to come.
Don't forget, the following week after the GP will be the Dirt Cup.

Don't forget, the following week after the GP will be the Dirt Cup. That looks like a pretty solid entry list to me - five cars apiece from A, H, and S with a couple of fast W cars thrown in as a bonus. About 10 of those cars are realistic possibilities for 1st or 2nd so the racing will be good. Third place seems to be locked in however.........

Hey Crumpie Is there going to be any where to sit on the front straight at Wacky Park , because what ive been told there is no seating and the little grandstand where the crew watch from has also been banned by the council .

We are sorry to say there is no seating on the front straight as the Auckland City Council say if there was an earthquake the big grandstand could fall on the temporary grandstand. The competitors Grandstand is also banned from use by Auckland City Council Health and Safety.

So if that was there views on the matter ,why then allow people in the clubrooms if the grandstand collapsed surely the end facing the switch board ,eatery and the toilet block upstairs in the clubrooms would suffer under the impact . It seems rather bizarre that they allow the whole venue still to operate under Quote Auckland City Council Health and Safety under there terms of reference

If the big Grandstand was going to fall down it is back heavy so delt would fall forward anyway. And like how long has it been there now 60 years. Well before speedway. Come on when was the last earthquake in Auckland anyway. Sounds like just the council trying to ruin a well run venue again. Is it going to be an eyesore for another 5 years or are they even going to replace it. Very sad indeed.

18R has now entered bringing the total number of cars to 18.
Format will see the cars split into groups with a total of 6 heats for points, highest scorer off the front for a 25 lap final to find the GP winner.
As for the grandstand, it was built in the early 1930's, which means it's pushing up towards 90 years old. My own personal opinion is that it's built a lot more solidly than some people seem to think and if/when it's demolished, it'll take more than a huff and puff from the Big Bad Wolf to knock it down.

I agree with the grandstand comment. Back in the early 90's when it was an issue, part of the problem was rusting steel re-inforcing was expanding causing pieces of concrete to fall.

Race format will see the field split into 4 groups. There'll be a total of 6 heats where each group will race every other group once.
Top points scorer from the heats will get choice of lane off the front row for a 25 lap final to decide the GP winner. Any ties on points will be decided by fastest lap times.

oh well i think ill give that a miss then wont be any different for dirt cup one week later . what a shame i really enjoy that meeting , surely its got to be sorted some how other wise the crowds will be dwindling away . Have to disagree with you Wadey, some significant differences. NZGP 18 cars 4 groups 6 x 10 lap heat races NOT SEEDED (big difference this one, totally random marbledraw sets groups) every group races each other group at least once 25 lap final with highest points from heats having lane choice Dirt Cup Possibly 20 cars (2 guys entered in GP not doing Dirt Cup but 4 guys not doing GP may de doing Dirt Cup) 3 groups 3 x heat races SEEDED POLE SHUFFLE for top 6 and ties 30 lap feature. Each heat race for GP will have between 8 and 10 cars Each heat race for Dirt Cup will have 13-14 cars The reason we are going to groups in GP is to reduce risk of losing guys in heat races and then come 25 lap title race having a depleted field due to losing guys in heats. It is a NZ title so best to give everyone the best chance possible of making the title race. Having all 18 cars out in heat races just to gather points to set the field for the final is asking for trouble. The fact the field is not seeded is huge, groups and grids for heat races are set from marbledraw at start of the night and this is random. Could easily mean that 5 of the guys who might have been top seeds could be in same group and have to race each other in all their 3 heats, just depends how the marbles fall. Dirt Cup is a promotional event so can be treated differently with guys being seeded to try and even out groups. Always run a pole shuffle which we not doing on GP night and final is 5 laps longer. Chalk and cheese mate. Dirt Cup will have an added bit of interest with a "guest driver" making an appearance in one of the cars. Guest driver is an ex 1nz one coming back out for a play. Both meetings will be great mod racing so dig deeper into your pockets Wadey and come to both.

Geez Midway I am not that bad. Need to be a pretty big ramp to get into the clubrooms, but once in much easier to get out.... hic! I struggle to get up the hill on the back straight as my wheelchair doesn't have enough ummphhh so if you see me struggling up the hill on the back straight with a hotdog and chips in hand feel free to give me a push!! The stockcar champs looks like a good field. My first meeting of the season so looking forward to it.
