Heard Bruce say on a podcast the other day that they will cap it to 5 or 6 teams as they don't have the $$$ to pay out for 8 9 or 10 teams in Auckland

The other big problem is the lack of seating after the permit for the temporary front straight grandstand was withdrawn at the start of the season. All impacts on what can be spent on this event. Six teams would still be pretty good with two groups of three, top two from each to semis and other two race for 5th / 6th on night two. Possibly Allstars, Panthers, Mustangs, Kings, Giants and Hawkeyes but it really depends on how all the teams, cars and drivers have pulled up after the grueling Teams Champs last week.

would be a shame to have to turn teams away. There has been some years with lean team numbers, and the crowd has supported the meet. Maybe time to give something back to the spectators. I understand that this is a business.
Perhaps some of the Palmy teams profits could assist in off setting this meet.
Another angle would be to ask council/RFA (or what every they call themselves) for some cash to offset lack of seating capacity due to the poor condition of their asset.
Last resort, Chat to Red and hold it a Huntly for this year on a cost/profit share arrangement.
It would be interesting to see what percentage of the crowd is local?
I also wouldn't want to travel, to get their to find the sold out sign at the gate. Hopefully there will be a live stream option.
Really feel for the situation that WP are in due to the constraints enforced upon them.

Yes, seating and spectator comfort at Waikaraka Park is an ongoing issue. As an update, the club is working with Auckland Council to make sure all of the seating removed from in front of the old grandstand is put back up at other vantage points around the track in time for the Teams event.
On a side note, the resource consent application to demolish the grandstand is now in at Auckland Council. As part of the consent application the council themselves are asking for 3000 new seats and 4 port-a-com toilet blocks to be put up as an interim replacement until a more permanent solution is in place. It has taken 5 years of hard work and conversations with the Council to get to this point.
It is fairly clear to see how other issues in Auckland, that have nothing to do with Waikaraka Park, have confused and slowed down the process, but there is now some encouraging independent movement forward.
The patience and support of visiting competitors and speedway racing fans at Waikaraka Park, has been encouraging throughout the last 5 years. They deserve better, and the club continues to work hard with Auckland Council to make sure it does not take another 5 years for more positive news.

Really feel for the situation that WP are in due to the constraints enforced upon them. There are a few old sly dogs still at the Auckland Council, a move to Huntly is just more reason not to commit themselves beyond the demolition of the grandstand . The Asscc has to show solidarity with in its self and not rely on outside interests for its survival . There are two ways of looking at that midway. The other is that the Council are always looking to attract events to their city, which in turn attracts people to their city who are spending money on food, accommodation etc. If they saw events being taken out of their city, especially due to substandard Council-owned facilities, well, they might not like the chance of that sort of publicity either, and may react in a positive fashion. It will be a shame to only get 6 teams. I think 8 should be a minimum. Put as much temp seating as poss. But I do think that if Bruce does cap it at 6 teams then the mustangs shouldn’t be allowed to come. Allow a team from another club that is prepared to come. Otherwise if you keep turning away other teams when it comes time to wanting lots of teams they won’t bother coming. Just my opinion

Why wouldn't he want teams from his tracks (P,A,HB) Most likely go for Giants and Kings for the contentious attraction.

Yes Barry that may be looked at as a positive outlook . But there has been a more beneficial additions to the Cities coffers like the America,s cup ,but it not just the inner city that prospers ,it is over the whole region which the Super City has under its umbrella . I look at Carlaw Park as a example from how it was ,till now unfortunately ,they call it modernization of an asset which brings in a more collectible result ...

scrappers They dont normally go to teams in akld but who knows I guess we shld know in a week or 2 i get the feeling that they have wanted to go over the last 5 years but have always been smashed up big time at palmy. this year they have squad. and didnt take the same damage that they have in previous years. kings will be hard pressed i think. how long 126 and 26 out for? suprised gaints have the drivers and cars available. i think its the same weekend as battle of stocks ive herd. not sure how the hawke eyes will go if 87b and 1b do go south. rebels must be there if they want. havnt missed many team champs. would be a huge slap in the face to them. busters got beaten up quite bad as well. but do have a huge squad through.

if bruce stated 5 or 6 teams who will be excluded from this list I think my 7 will be very close Well you could name all 14 teams that were at Palmy and you'd be exactly right. Barry B
