All, SNZ have opened up an online survey to do with speedway in Auckland. As we have seen with the RFA tender for Western Springs coming out and the future still quite uncertain, the Auckland Council machine has now clicked into action. The SNZ survey covers speedway racing activities at WESTERN SPRINGS, WAIKARAKA PARK and ROSEBANK ROAD. A good response to the survey is vital to the sport in Auckland being able to demonstrate its value and need for any future decisions by Auckland Council to be carefully considered. Poor decision making will negatively affect speedway racing and the motorsport industry in Auckland and elsewhere. All Auckland based competitors, team owners, speedway and motorsport related business owners, suppliers (mechanics, engineers, engine builders etc.) AND fans must respond to this survey, and anyone who visits Auckland to attend speedway events or supplies into the Auckland speedway network should also respond. Please share amongst your contacts and make it widely known that demonstrating the value of the sport to Auckland with hard data will provide the best chance for appropriate investment and good outcomes for sport. I think the RFA are well tuned by the last debacle over the sport in the Super city better known as Jaffa land than any Survey SNZ comes out with .or ends up conducting
As for the council of Chiefs and Indians ,Goffs words at election time where that if elected he was going to bring change which included the Rfa in decision making ,report and all matters arising ..
i hope SNZ conducts a survey on them selves ,before throwing any stones at anything else as we are well aware many times there representatives are constantly not observing there own rule book ..

This is not an RFA problem anymore.
It is important to understand the only thing RFA will be involved in from now on is the tender for promotional rights at Western Springs for the next and final term. RFA have no involvement in what happens to the sport at the end of that term.
The responsibility now sits within a different department of Auckland Council and not one of the C.C.O's being reviewed. This new department has the mandate to go forward and make plans based on a 'demand analysis'. The Speedway New Zealand survey is about establishing demand and demonstraing the value of the sport in Auckland.
I woud recommend forgetting about RFA and taking this survey very seriously.

I wrote to council and my local councillor about the state of Waikaraka Park asking what they were going to do about it a month or so ago. Neither bothered to acknowledge or reply to my emails!
I have completed the SNZ form but don’t hold out much hope.

To put things in perspective, the Auckland Council has just started a 3 year term. Things will move forward behind the scenes now with a view to having any politically charged decisons in the rear view miror before the next election.
RFA have stepped back and are only working on the Venue Hire Agreement at Western Springs for the next 2-3 years. It doesn't take a genius to see things lining up.
All speedway organisations in Auckland, including the solos at Rosebank Rd, are now dealing with an internal department at the council who work on a demand basis. This is a sginficant shift and I can say with a resonable degree of confidence that none of the organisations have been made aware of this change and activity officially, but some of us are watching carefully.
Demonstrating demand and value to Auckland council will define the decison making and council investment levels from this point on..
We all know intuitively how much the sport is worth to Auckland, but there is no actual data that any of the groups can point to in support of their speedways. This is why the survey is very important.
Things have moved quietly into a different gear, and we are likely to see things ramp up now.
There is hope Tonyr.

One Great BIG indoor Speedway development for the 3 clubs in Auckland, can serve as concert venue, rugby, soccer etc..as long as it is foremost a Speedway venue. Do it at WP, take over the whole lot, get rid of soccer and cricket, put up a big building, build a Long track for Sprintcars, Supersaloons etc,and a purpose built 440 meter Stockcar track inside that, and inside that a solo bike track. Why mess round with 3 venues for one sport...is anyone out there Mates with Kim Dot Com?

Super salons and sprint cars do/look better on longer tracks. there is going to compromise to get all 3 on the one track? So still where we are, except it's a covered track. |

Firstly, your post is contradictory, also I think using phrases like "get rid of .." is inflammatory and not the best strategic approach to promoting speedway, in this case in Auckland. Waiting for a Golden Goose is pissing me off to be honest, hoping the Council will spend tens of millions of dollars is just delaying any expenditure when a tenth of what is being hoped for will put Waikaraka to a level most other tracks enjoy. What to date has SNZ done for Waikaraka Park? What "horse" will SNZ hitch its wagon to with the requested information, I don't recall them attempting to correct the "fake facts" that were spoken by SPL at their council meetings. What do SNZ really know about the history/politics of Aucklands competing tracks. Why not just show the Council reports from Palmerston Nth council on the worth of speedway to a community. As far as I'm concerned all Western Spring needs is a long term lease. To any haters that say I'm being shortsighted, negative, pro-Waikaraka, I have spent thousands visiting many tracks, most with just basic facilities, and yet am considering not going to my local track to watch the best meeting of the year due to the seating limitations and facilities. Spectators/Families shouldn't have to get to track hours beforehand just to get a seat. |

Turn the clock back to early this century when the Govt of the day offered to pay for a closed in stadium for the R.W.C. on the waterfront. Even the Govt wanted it multi use, concerts and moto cross, but because the media brain washed the sheep of Ak that a stadium on the precious waterfront blocking sea views was a bad idea the money withdrawn and we saddled with debt ridden Eden Park that it was going to replace. Can't turn the clock back and say we made a mistake but we would like one to cater for speedway, concerts etc etc. And before people get on their high horses and blow the idea apart, Monster Trucks, Tractor pulling etc in the USA and around the world mostly held in enclosed stadiums. Ak council has got itself into a corner with debt laden Eden Park and huge investment for 4 yacht's in the world cup. Ak speedway will NEVER progress while there is such a public spat between the speedway clubs . Graemeh, those thoughts of yours are basically what I sent off last week, what has SNZ done for AK, and buried their head when SPL knifed the opposing track. The council know the clubs are not united and unfortunately use this to their advantage. As Wade has said, new ball game, and hopefully cool heads will prevail and when we exit the tunnel into sunlight the future of the sport in Ak will look more secure. The council will only get more debt ridden trying to please an ever expanding population so the sport needs to put on a united public face. |

Most tractor pulling is done at field days ,and monster trucks i wont disclose the details :)but go on to say truck shows certainly draw a crowd with the money raised goes to charity or a special needs organisation .
My sentiments go to Greame Howe and how he feels, but realistically the battle would be greater than Stone fields in this present day ..

I'm talking tractor pulling USA style and Monster Trucks as in Monster Jam [ TV3], not some northern A&P show, field days or Drury Truck Show which your charity reference refers to. Yes the battle is great, SNZ been asleep too long at the wheel on this issue and until they turn up now did the council even know they existed? |

Ha Ha Ha Slideways, your political correctness exceeds my ability to give a toss. Seriously though, Oval track racing is lucky in Auckland to have 3 tracks, all of them in built up areas...there's no escaping urban sprawl or the power of the dollar when it comes to under utilised land. The pressure will always be on the "Springs" and really with the track they have you'd think they'd been keen to GTFO, but for some reason folks want to hold on to the place, problem is, its always going to be in the cross hairs going forward. Sooner or later the bike track will become a target and the concept of an amalgamated Waikaraka Park,"Half Mile" Motorplex will inevitably arise again. Even if its done down by the airport...One awesome facility to be proud of would garner more support from Central and local Govt and the gen population than 3 smaller units all trying to survive!!

Imagine if our indoor facility started drawing crowds, and Turnover was such that prize/appearance money was enticing Aussie late model and Sprintcar divers to keep workshops and cars in NZ..we could make NZ the Southern Hemisphere center of Speedway, incl Bikes, late models, and sprintcars...add then the Yanks coming in on the off season because they know they'll never be rained out...imagine the angles of tv we could get at superstock teams nights...just open you mind to what is possible...
