Hey craige the advice of your ole uncle Al is unless things change dramatically between now and then, don't cancel. At the moment those returning from the islands don't have a mandatory self isolation period. Let it ride a bit and see what happens. Assuming u or her don't catch it before then & they don't get any cases there, you should be car pie bro

What I hear is the PM is going to take that decision out of their hands either later today or tomorrow. I wouldn’t plan on attending any more speedway this season. I wouldn't pre buy any movie tickets either

I wouldn't pre buy any movie tickets either Sadly Allan, I fear you're right and we have all attended our last speedway meetings of the season. I've also been advised this morning that a conference I was attending in May has been cancelled, and my wife's plans to travel to a conference in Las Vegas next month have also gone up in smoke. But that all pales into insignificance for people who are getting sick with COVID-19, or for those people who are about to lose their jobs as a result of the economy tanking. I've just seen that Air New Zealand is cutting its international flight schedule by 85% effective to at least the end of June, and that they are talking about redundancies.

Wings over wanaka just been canned. Beach hop about to be canned. . I’m normally as highrevs puts it a. She be right kind of broke. But I’m not so sure now .. put it this way me and the wife had booked a trip to raro for 7 nights in June and paid a 2k deposit seriously thinking of cancelling it now and tbh if loose our 2k its better than risk catching the virus in a airport etc I can understand events that involve international visitors or competitors being cancelled and possibly any major events for the next fortnight, but provided the restrictions that have been announced re the 14 day self-isolation for overseas visitors and as long as the number of diagnosed Corona Virus people doesn't increase in the short term I would think/hope that NZ may be able to dodge a bullet. All the current people that have been diagnosed were people returning from overseas and not self-isolating. Signed: The eternal optimist Well said, the head Lady just needs to close the boarders for now and we can go on with all our events as planed. Letting people in is to no advantage what so ever at the present time.

You cant completely close the borders Beachboy..so much that we need is still freighted in from overseas. Medication being a huge 1.

It's a smart move to be postponing or cancelling events, although the possibility of getting it might be low, just picture half the crowd at the final night of the Springs season getting sick, it'd probably shut Auckland hospital down, due to the capacity, not to mention other medical emergencies, car crashes etc needing a bed. It's about slowing the spread down to avoid those situations.
As much as we all love racing, end of the day it's just racing.

Perhaps the council is not as dumb as we thought and they had drawn up a plan years ago in case of such a scenario and that's why they closed the grandstand and removed seating so that WP could not be classed as a big gathering and proceed as normal while all other sports grind to a halt.

Speedway should get an exemption due to the fact crowds are smaller.

Speedway should get an exemption due to the fact crowds are smaller. That 500 includes competitors, crew and officials NOT JUST 500 spectators! So they could run speedway events closed to public access. When do clubs make the call relative to financial viability? Have a look at Velocity Motorsport News to view the article on MSNZ and the decision around their upcoming events including Rally Otago. My view point as a nurse is that public safety comes well before anything else at this time. We can b***h about Jacinda and her decisions however the theory is absolutely correct...slow the spread while we can. Even though 8 cases are confirmed in NZ the ACTUAL number will be POTENTIALLY higher...there will be people infected who don`t even know it. That said...don`t panic and continue to do the basics well...hand washing and cover your mouth when you cough/sneeze. Anthony

I assume those suggesting speedway run with no spectators either with or without a live stream are just having a laugh?

I wonder if CTRA has has a veiw point on this, after all it,s all about speedway... Not quite CTRA but have a look at the SNZ website regarding their press release at 1730 hours. We all love our speedway but we need to get this Covid 19 under control NOW otherwise there might not be speedway next season...let alone anything else. Short term pain for...hopefully...long term gain:) Anthony
