Speedway should get an exemption due to the fact crowds are smaller. That 500 includes competitors, crew and officials NOT JUST 500 spectators! So they could run speedway events closed to public access. When do clubs make the call relative to financial viability? Have a look at Velocity Motorsport News to view the article on MSNZ and the decision around their upcoming events including Rally Otago. My view point as a nurse is that public safety comes well before anything else at this time. We can b***h about Jacinda and her decisions however the theory is absolutely correct...slow the spread while we can. Even though 8 cases are confirmed in NZ the ACTUAL number will be POTENTIALLY higher...there will be people infected who don`t even know it. That said...don`t panic and continue to do the basics well...hand washing and cover your mouth when you cough/sneeze. I also recommend checking the Ministry of Health website as this will give updates regarding all the measures being implemented. Anthony

With only the north island super stock title to be run in Auckland. Will they do that one behind closed doors only with video hub doing the live stream?

sport can still be enjoyed, but from the safety and comfort of your couch. some sports are being played in empty stadia, for live streaming. jase wearing protective white , mask included, doing the business for us all. Go on Jase! beachlands speedway is to run a two night no spectators meeting that will be streamed by The Pits TV, thanks jase.

With a track like Waikaraka that already has the online ticket purchase system set up, they should put say 200 tickets up at a premium price for anyone who really wants to go and can't do streaming. no-one would be anywhere close to anyone else as a spectator!

What we got to remember that there is a 500 people limit, if you have 60 superstocks with 3 crew each and the driver there is 240 people there so that leaves 260 for other classes and all the officals, camera men etc. I cant see speedway going ahead

I agree Regan. Wanganui has been regularly getting over 100 cars per meeting this season, and by the time you've got drivers, crew and families, you're well on the way to 500 people. Add in track staff, volunteers, caterers, St John personnel and you'll have 500 people there well before the public gates are due to open.
On the positive side, people will have no excuses not to be ready for Opening Night of the 2020-21 season, with an extended off-season for rebuilds, repairs and new builds!

Just hold all meetings at Bay Park......No one ever gets close to another spectator there lol

Not being to negative ,my only hope is this can blow away like the fart Tax did , but somehow reading between the lines a recession is more likely to happen ,as it has started to take affect in many export companies and those who rely on imports . But this is a about speedway so lets hope those who have saved a shilling or two ,can still enjoy there sport ,but many clubs will have to look hard if this continues its path as predicted ..

Your maths is better than mine! Yes once you start adding it up the 500 limit looms pretty quick!

Looking for a silver lining in all this, if the decision is to cancel the remaining meetings at Waikaraka Park, they should get in and pull down the Grandstand asap to give better chance the place isn't a demolition site and off-limits come October.
Midway, you might know, how long would it take to demolish and remove the old grandstand???
