Hi team just after peoples thoughts. We are looking at stepping up a class and have really struggled to get prices on brand new chassis and engine builds. The guys that advertise "for all your needs seem to be the worst" all the excuses and no results. So far we have been waiting since the end of January and still nothing from 2 of them. They will text or email a response but nothing in $$$.

I assume from your profile name you are talking stepping up to superstocks? Just as a general principle, I find picking up the phone gets a better response than e-mails or texts - as that gives You the opportunity for a genuine conversation. and not just seen as another possible tyrekicker.

Surely these businesses will now have the time to respond and do a little pricing during the lockdown? There are a few bandits out there who won’t quote then charge hard as well as ones who promise ‘top of the line’ but it’s never as good as their pet drivers. In saying that most are still genuine helpful people

The rule of thumb used to be buy it at the track, then the good bits are on it and you get he proper race day spares
If your stepping up a class money would probably be best spent on a going concern, then upgrade from there.
At least these days there is a very wide number of we’ll known chassis builders and engine builders
Off the top of my head - and running North to South...
Vazey Chestnutt Top Gear Westbury Hampton Tri Rails Ellsworth and co? Kuriger Gordge Lintern Podjursky Race Tanks Rees Race Cars Demon BWC Heyburn Tri Rails Higgens Leech QTR chassis
What chassis builders have I missed? Tried to include those who have built 3 or more in the last 10 years ish
No wonder we are in the glory age of superstocks
Engine building lists for speedway just as long

My advice would be go for the more popular chassis builders who are in the business to build race cars only . If you go for people who have another job and only build race cars part time you could be in for a wait. If paying a deposit , again i would only be doing it with a full time and well known builder. I went down the track of using cowboys when getting work done on my last 2 superstocks and both turned to crap , both cars sat in these guys sheds for months and virtually nothing was done to them and both ended up being sold off in bits. And it wasnt due to me not having the funds , as i had a decent budget i was willing to fork out.

That how it happens alright, you start off with the money and energy, But you wait so long for things to happen that the budget slowly gets used on other things and after a long spell you still only find a part built car in your shed...and that just leads to anger and frustration. Im in that position and have been for over three years, in fact Covid19 Lock down forced the postponement of a second hearing in the District court after the other guy didnt turn up to the first one. .

The guys on Obbys list are pretty good at building racecars , but i guess some get snowed under . I found it was the so called Racecar Buiders [ not on Obbys list ] that like to make out they are expert racecar builders are the ones who will give you problems.

I suppose thats why the transaction used to happen at the track, could always break out the rule of thumb if negotiations got a bit heated.

Neither sound very good!

Engine builders would also be a great list to add as would suspension/wheel/tyre suppliers.. These are often hard to find sources when someone new is trying to find info or look into options.
