How are you coping?
Is this extraordinary situation doing your head in?
How long will we really be confined to house arrest?
Is Jacinda and Co doing a good job, or over reacting while driving many small businesses to ruin?
How do liquor outlets and cigarette manufactures qualify as essential services?
Anyone got a crystal ball with projections of what we can expect?

Well trying to pace the day, Unfortunately some small towns only have a dairy so they have to be open, Auckland booze ships should have closed, others can't buy spirits do why should they have special treatment Good reason to break the trust's hold on certain areas

Well in Northland we have three cases so far out of say 30,000 people ,but its lock down for most except for farmers ,horticulture ,Marsden Point oil refinery shutdown ,and essential services as they call it . Based on those figures why shut down the logging industry ,export dollars through the port men & women back in the work force ,rather than seeing a huge amount of gear laying idle . This Govern ment if you call it that has simply not done its homework right ,it will take years to regain confidence back and many small business, will close the doors . looting has been reported in the outskirts of town many small diary owners are closed of fear of been killed or shot at ,,we havent the police or military to act ,they stay in numbers in cities .. We could govern the entry into Northland by road blocks on SH one and Sh 16 and turn those around that cant prove they justify travelling into this province .but look at the two in the front office Winnie the poo and maverick Shane Jones know doubt still on every perk and fat salaries they can encounter Dont worry behind all this there will be some shinning stars rejoicing at the opportunity to line there pockets with gold bars .. Speedway will suffer like any other sport ,but like the old saying goes united we stand and divided we fall .. Midway still Rocks

Find it a bit bizarre that according to Dr Bloomfield who advised today that following NZ's first death attributed to Covid, a 70+ year old woman, 21 hospital staff have now been put into isolation for 14 days because they were not wearing Covid Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
According to NZ births and deaths stats, in 2018 a total 33,000+ kiwis died - that's an average of 90 deaths per day for all causes.

Where is logging going to send the logs? Up to the lock down was enforced ,NorthPort was accepting logs for export ,some of which was a 4 day a week ,and pulp logs werent affected at the Marisumi mill at Portland . Douglas logging was working a 5day week , China has resumed milling timber and the boats at north Port are loading logs and to my panel of knowledgeable waterside workers are working loading the ships ,plus containers of export Kiwi fruit and other horticulture goods. Commonly known as essential services

If you heard Simon Bridges speech he said , There is NO Labour, National, Green, NZ 1st, Act Parties in this corona virus pandemic, we are all NZers working to unite and control the situation. I may be simplifying the situation but the Govt didn't bring the virus into the country, NZ'ers did by coming back from infected countries. We as citizens and tax payers are paying dearly for the privileged ones who have travelled abroad. All parties have been close knit behind the scene working out the plans, so now is not the time to grandstand and blame the Leader because you don't like her or the party. Lets leave it to the officials especially the Ministry Of Health, they have factual data from here and over seas. If you didn't watch Sunday tv1 last night watch it on demand, the so called wet markets where it started in China are in more countries than we think and closer to home. Ticking time bomb for it to occur under a different guise. For those that question current action as over kill, go to Waikato Times website, in Matamata 3 eateries have confirmed 3 staff members tested positive which has now spread to cluster of 15 and 1 hospitalized , and they were all closed with lockdown. 2 Primary Schools in my neighbor hood in lockdown and a youngster from 1 , neighbours child goes to one of the schools and as I'm in the 70+ bracket take current situation very serious and watch the Health Depts 1pm updates every day. UNITE AND HOPE.

Commonly known as essential services China mills have started in a few places, not all over. Expected turnover of logs will take 2 or 3 months to reduce stockpiles in and around China, plus incoming shipments on the water and from Europe. All food exports are still considered "essential" even the onion factory is flat out. 100% of their product is exported. Like us, we import food products, so why would we stop another countries food supply? Up to and even after, Eastland port was accepting and shipping logs, so? 20% approx is exported to other than China, so? You may find if you look, the receiving countries are in lock down or constrained production. Can't get pulp logs with out some saw logs, very few blocks are solely pulp. Yes some are, I have logged. I am waiting for MBIE clearance to restart as soon as, why? Dairy goats need bedding but all the sawmills and joinery shops are shut. We will run at a lose if we restart, as I can't produce "non-essential" product. Or raise prices and be labeled a "price gouger" Freight is doubling as trucks only get loads one way, are they price gouging?

Alot of the hawkes bay is still working based that most of our industries are to do with food. From grapes to apples, from meat works to watties. And all the trades that support those industries. Worried that there is community transmission.
P.m done a amazing job. Acted when she's needed to at the right time. Has differently saved many kiwi lives. It's like what's the price you put on your people. Acting early saves lives and actually minimizes economic impact. So hope everybody listening because I would hate this to last 10 weeks because that's the harsh scary reality of not following through.

I think the PM's communication has been excellent, but the Government has been in catch-up mode right through this crisis. We should have closed our borders earlier. The multiplying power of this virus is scary; this time a week ago, we had two cases of community transfer. Yesterday, there were more than 100 cases in a number of clusters, the worst of which is Marist College in Auckland, which now has 31 confirmed cases and five probables; double the number of cases the school had on Friday. Stay home if you can, and follow the rules. Our businesses have basically shut down in terms of customers, although we are still working on them from home. But I'd rather have a business that fell over than a family member die from this bloody virus.

But as is the case in italy people are dying not because they cant save them but the shear scale of the numbers the health system is crashing and that's killing people. That's what to avoid. You can look at the knowns. And unknowns. But bottom line is it can kill anybody from any part of life. And if it doesn't kill you can leave you with life long damage even young healthy people. There is two strains. Its already mutated. With one more deadly than the other which is relatively mild. And will only mutate more often until we figure this out.

I'm enjoying working from home, I could quiet happily continue working this way. I don't believe what the current Labour lead government is doing is significantly different to what a National lead government would have done given the same circumstances (although Bill English's tight control government spending in the period following the GFC is giving the country options). The real challenge will be how they get the country up and running again once we are though this.
Expecting at least 2 months of this with potentially some variability in the level (oscillation between 3 & 4). Personality I'll be working from home for the foreseeable (until we return to 1 or less I suspect).
Weekends are a challenge, only so many times you walk up and down the street. Work is the same but I now have a window.
Don't really drink and don't smoke so don't really take an interest.
People will start going insane that's when the fun will start.

Face Masks - why I have started wearing them when heading off to the super market! And frankly it feels a bit weird. It is a challenge deciding who to believe when there are conflicting messages from so callled medical experts. WHO only recommends the use of masks in specific cases: if you have cough, fever and difficulty breathing, you should wear a mask and seek medical care. NZ Ministry of Health..."Face masks aren’t necessary outside of a health setting. However staff who have their own supply and choose to wear them shouldn’t be prevented from doing so". However when I look at the Asian cultures, who have much more experience then we do, the general public all appear to be wearing masks. I suspect there is a stigma in our culture that anyone wearing facemask in say a super market, must have the virus. Anyway I just purchased some masks from Trademe. They are not the high quality N95, but they better than nothing. I purchased these knowing I was getting gouged, paying through the nose (LOL), $3 ea for something that used to cost a 1/10th of that. They were delivered by courier within two days. There are no doubt better deals out there. While they are disposable they can be steriliused and reused.

I traveled to Melbourne a week or so after the outbreak in late January, just for the day
Didn’t think a lot of it, until walking through Melbourne airport ~ a lot more people compared to flying out of CHCH at 6am, and I started to become weary. Half through the airport on arrival a full plane load from China arrived, and every single one of the people coming off the plane had a mask. Prompted some thinking.
The next week (2nd week of Feb)I had a week in the USA, traveling from west to east, and flying out of NEw York.
We took masks for the week, and were the odd ones out.
It was also -10 in Chicago, and -4 in New York so very wintery, and not surprising it has taken hold there.
One of the best reasons I’ve heard for a mask is you can pick up a virus through three main entry points - Mouth, Nose, Eyes.
Often this is from your own hands coming in contact with the virus somewhere, and you inadvertently touch ing your food, mouth, rubbing your eyes, whipping your nose.
So a mask helps protect you from yourself, as much as others.
Re; how are we going as a country? As an island deep down south we have geographical isolation at our advantage, and tourism as one of our primary income earners based on visitors at our disadvantage, and so much of our business is export orientated with clients off shore.
We may have acted a week earlier or a week later, however I don’t think it would have made a difference, given the way a virus acts.
It’s on us all to be proactive as possible to limit the speed at which it spreads so we can cope with the inevitable illnesses that arise, but also so we have space for the unexpected accidents we also need to deal with through life.
Hope you all stay well and do your bit. Very sad to see the first death on the West Coast. Look after each other, and at least the drought is breaking in the Canterbury region. Good to have some rain to hoped green things up

Obi, masks are of little use to people not used to them, as they constantly fiddle with them, so any virus on the mask is transferred to other parts of the body. In china/Asia, air pollution is the main reason they wear masks, has been for a long time.
Smokers make me laugh wearing masks, they remove the mask to suck on the cigarette with the same hand that removed the mask.
