And if we are, let's hope this gov't has some kind of plan for the economy, so we don't end up with a five team competition come Feb. I mean like a proper plan, not just a bunch of end result ideas, with no idea how to get there, which seems to be this lots stock in trade.
I always say speedway is about 2 years behind the economy, but this time I reckon the effects will be fairly immediate.
As long as the big players in the world print around the same amount of money, whhoopps I mean do the same amount of quantitative easing relative to the size of their economies as NZ does then the exchange rate should stay around the same. But keeping the cash flow going over the next 12 months for most businesses is going to be a fine balancing act. I fear that our glamour/super classes are going to take a hit over the next few seasons.

I personally think that if this all carries on through past the end winter months, there should be no SNZ titles competed for next summer. I feel, like the Olympics, everything should be put back 12 months, including the Stockcar Teams meeting being discussed here. We're a little way from that right now, but I think it's something that should be being thought about, and possibly discussed, already. Barry B

Here we are not even a month of bad or depressed trading and we have one of the countries top economists giving out his predictions on how the world and his beloved sport of Speedway will suffer .... Well the late Joe Cocker had a hit song Take off your Clothes ,but leave your hat on ,i couldnt honestly think a more appropriate song for a life time friend

December 2009 - NZ Stockcar Teams Champs at Wellington, 81b Regan O'Brien. I thought Regan drove great at the 2020 ENZED Superstock Teams Champs.

I don't want the gov't to save any sport, least of all speedway. Infact if their plan was to be completely hands off I'd think that was the best idea they could have. But I can't see that happening any more than you can. So I just want them to create a climate where businesses, large and small can get back to doing what they do best. A situation where they can all compete on a leval playing field and ppl can spend their money on what they want to spend money on and where they want to spend it. My main concern is that this whole thing will be used to ram thru their socialist agenda, the signs are already there. The UBI will be next. Gst will be put up prob just after the election if labour are returned, but they won't campaign on it. Altho the signs were there that the economy was slowing before this thing hit a class like Superstocks is where it is now because we have had 6 or 7 years of a very strong economy. Ppl ain't scared to spend money when they have confidence, the complete opposite when confidence is low. In short if the gov't decide they can spend even more of someone's money better than the person could themselves then the sport will suffer. Unfortunately this (and most when it comes to it) flavour of gov't beleives exactly that.

You have to rebuild business confidence especially in the smaller sector regardless of which political party wins past the post and a large proportion of small business that doesnt sell its own product will find it hard as unemployment will certainly rise and many will no doubt spend there surplus cash much more wisely .with those who have taken bank holidays on there mortgages ,plus negotiated terms with finance houses over luxury items ,the interest has to be repaid rather sooner than later . So once again i guess the sport will suffer. Our economy is still suffering from the ravages imposed on it by Roger Douglas, whose neoliberal ideas are now thoroughly discredited.when he slashed down the volume of money in circulation ,prices continued to rise sharply .

I'm a VERY, VERY long way from the thread title, probably need 2 tanks of benzine for the trip but.. ...if you want a bit of background and insight about the guy mentioned above and have a slight interest in NZ's political past and potential future these documentary's might fill in a bit of time. Ahh.. Rogernomics, thats going back a bit, but having lived through the massive industrial and political changes of the 1980's in NZ I found these video's a great watch, and am still alarmed/amazed/entertained by Douglas, Muldoon, Lange and others including Ruth Richardson who were at large at the time. In 1985 you could borrow money at around 12.5% to invest on the stockmarket and keep the change, wild times. "Revolution" - Great four x one hour epidsodes on NZ 1980's political scene.. Muldoon v Lange debate and Lange speech at Oxford. To have some understanding of the situation Douglas faced you must understand what the new government inherited, ie: the country was bankrupt. "In a Land Of Plenty." "Someone Elses Country" I like documentaries but have found Al Jazeera world news a bit depressing recently, my next post from me will be about the NZ Stockcar Teams Champs.

Enjoy your Easter toast Midship mate, I thought I might tell you that after you mentioned the Wuhan wet market on another thread a while ago I watched a video of it, and wish I hadn't. Bruce Betham wouldn't have liked it either. Have one for me, been quite a while. Cheers Speaking of the NZ Stockcar Teams.. about a decade ago the Palmerston North Pumas had a pretty handy team usually made up Graeme Ward, Ron Tye, Peter Rees, Gavin Taniwha, Josh Prentice, Gary Davis and Alec Wilson with Ian Parfitt manager. Was a fun time to live in Palmy and frequent the Forest Elbow with the Panthers also doing well at that time. The Forest Elbow is long gone, still is fun but the Young Guns and Hawkeyes are the ones to beat (smash lol) now.
