In the 70s the Auckland Pall Mall team had the red team bodies as well as the Panthers with the black bodies, then a big break till the 92/93 season when the Baypark dream team had them led by the one and only Clark Proctor.

The Todd & Pollock colours certainly were the icing on the cake leading into the more modern era of stockcar racing ,but not to say the pall Mall team wasnt of any interest ..With Square Bush the clown he must rank one of the best all time entertainers the sport has ever seen ..

AVD team in Auckland was before the Baypark team, also have vague recollections from pictures of a "Jesters" team from wellington and maybe a team from the Waikato area in the Bob Clarkson era Triang team or something similar. Dont know if they were 4 car teams or not or maybe a figment of my imagination.

What was called in the day, a syndicate...Snoopy syndicate, jesters were a syndicate that started off as a basketball team i heard. no need to be a 4 or 5 car team as we know them now. I remember counting 8 cars in a syndicate one night, cant remember who that was but part of the success of the 70s in welly was due to the battles in open racing and the fact the syndicates were trying to keep the prize money away from everyone else..and the fact the cars were so large in number they backed right round turns 4 and 3 and then some, especially with the "all in 20 lapper" at the end.. I never witnessed actual teams racing (as we know it now) back in those days.

Barry B You could be right, I was thinking Clark was in the original Buster's after the AVD team which he was in. Looking at images online there's a pic of the AVD drivers riding on one of the cars, and Clark is wearing T & P overalls. So the AVD will be later, but I still can't recall exactly when. I'm guessing maybe after the old Baypark closed?

By memory the Avd team was in the 95/96 season and also led by Clark Proctor, the rest of the team was Billy Neill,Brian Bowater, Peter Drake and Noel Hawthorne and boy did they make things interesting.

Original Baypark Busters in Todd&Pollock colours was the 1992/1993 season. Craig Richards, Dutchy and Proctor all contracted to Baypark that year to form the team alongside Carlyle and Decke.
111 Ian Carlyle (1m) 112 David Decke (88m) 113 Craig Richards (2m) 114 Frank van Vroonhoven (24m) 115 Clark Proctor (7m) Wasn't Ian and David the instigators behind the team originally and captain was Carlyle? I remember Craig Taylor, David Roigard, Mark Decke and Craig Pierce were also in the team in later years during the old baypark days Pretty sure the AVD team was a little later in 1995/96 season

Did Clark Proctor break away from the busters to form the AVD team? I seem to remember something of the sort, but that was a few beers ago and may have been an incorrectly remembered rumour. If that was the case not sure it was amicable or not.

If that was the case not sure it was amicable or not. After the old Baypark closed down in 1995, Clark contracted back to Auckland again in 1995 for the 95/96 season. I dont think was any hard feelings as Baypark was no more, and his home track was always Auckland... I think (hazy memory) Clark had 2 cars at one stage if I remember correctly. One was based in Tauranga at his Can Man building in Judea (1992ish?)- this was the one that caused a bit of controversy due to the highbar design which SNZ made him remove.

As the saying goes "Cool story bro" [/quote Does that story ring a bell Graeme ? was about around your time on the council of chiefs maybe Had to smile about poor old Stanley Ruka ,perhaps Dave and him couldnt work on each others cars in the pits .. Ritchie Wright was a character i think he had more rover v8 crankshafts than any one did in Onehunga grinding Services workshop .one of his cars was nicknamed the Ugly Duckling with its independent suspension ..

Was interesting times, the "story" is a mixture of fact and fiction and the truth is somewhere in the middle Was really all about two strong personalities with different points of view and a bunch of others either picking sides or adding fuel to the fire without really knowing all the facts. Thats my "story" and I'm sticking with it Hahaha.

Yep Frank Irvine and Clark Proctor didn't like each other in the end but man the racing was awesome when the allstars and dvd teams met and that was just in the normal racing at waikaraka, good times.

Remember that meeting being very farcical and costing the sport many spectators at the time.
