These things are a matter of process under the Local Government Act and need to be followed. I would strongly encourage as many people, espcially from outside of Nelson, who can say they have travelled to attend a speedway event in Nelson to do so.
One of the reasons Palmerston North is spending millions on the speedway faciltiy there is because it became widely known that people visited Palmy specifically for speedway events. That = $$$ to the local economy and carries a lot of weight!
Waikaraka Park went through a similar 'have your say' process with the council up here, and through strong support from speedway people (77%) of all responders, it put the club in the driving seat for a future development plan which will be released shortly for another public 'have your say' for the process to be complete (the priocess has takken 12 onths so far with another 6 months to go). We will need a big push from the speedway community for the next part of our process, because the next bit is linked to funding, but lets give Nelson a nudge first!
The 'have your say' process for Nelson is very important, and I would encourage everyone to say good things and in big numbers. It will send a very clear message about the speedway being important 'regionally and nationally' and important for Nelson's local economy - especially now!
