I think most of us could see this coming. It was confirmed tonight (night of the 24th here in the Uk) that team GB will not be taking part in the 2021 team champs.
See below for the statement released.
I am sure by now you all would have guessed that due to the present conditions and restrictions that for the first time in over 10 years Team GB will not be taking part in the 2021 NZ Teams event at Robertson Holden International Speedway. Palmerston North New Zealand.
Disappointing as this is, we will be looking at putting all our efforts into the 2022 campaign to continue our challenge to take part and hopefully win one of the world’s toughest motorsport event. So, on behalf of everyone involved with Team GB may we wish you a Merry Christmas and hopefully a better 2021 Thank you for all your support, Please stay safe everyone Here’s to the 2022 challenge Team GB

Disappointing but not entirely unexpected. Please keep save all you speedway fans up there in what must be really tough times you are going through with the increasing lockdowns and discovery of new Covid19 virus strains. Hopefully we will all be back to normal to resume convivialites again in 2022.

Now the questions remain of will the Lions be replaced at teams and if so by who/where from?. The Hawkeyes tradionally go up against the Lions at Meeanee just a week before Teams and I doubt they would find another team keen to do that so close to the event??? Perhaps we will see a Hawkeyes probables vs possibles and a late announcement of the team??? darn shame for team GB as they bring so much more to Teams than just the racing. All the best and here's to 2022

If there is a bright side to this, it might be that we end up with 12 teams and the "proper" 4 groups of 3 format, where the 4 group winners are guaranteed to finish top 4

If there is a bright side to this, it might be that we end up with 12 teams and the "proper" 4 groups of 3 format, where the 4 group winners are guaranteed to finish top 3. I suspect 13 teams is still on the cards: A, H, K, R, M, S, V, B, G, P (Pan), P (Mus), W, and C. Of those surely only the attendance of the Waikato Wanderers would be even remotely in question. A shame the Lions won't be there this season, but completely unavoidable. Hopefully we can give them all the support they need to return in 2022, as it is easy to loose momentum after a break like this.

Your right break the momentum and often you break the team. I certainly hope we havn't seen the last of them.
