The Rotorua Stockcar Club in association with The Steve Williams Foundation, is excited to today, officially announce plans for a major one-off charity speedway spectacular to be staged at Rotorua’s TWS Paradise Valley Speedway. The two-night meeting which will be staged on the 27th & 28th of December 2021 will feature classes close to the minds and hearts of organisers and fans alike.
New Zealand’s premier Speedway class is right at home at Paradise Valley, and rightly so it is the Superstocks that will headline the show, with an invite-only field of 70 Superstocks from across New Zealand competing for a major prize purse, that includes an unprecedented $20,000 first prize to the overall event winner.
The support programme will feature two classes close to the heart of Williams. This includes the popular Saloons, a class that Williams has worked tirelessly to promote and Youth Ministocks, highlighting where many of today’s stars have come from, and also looking to the bright future of the sport. Steve and Kirsty through their Foundation have supported numerous kids getting their speedway careers off the ground in the Youth Ministocks.
While the on-track action is sure to excite, it is hoped that the ongoing benefits that this meeting will bring to many young lives and stressed families that will be the major driving force of the event.
Two charities have been chosen as the beneficiaries of this event, and they are Starship Hospital and Ronald McDonald House. Steve and Kirsty Williams, through their foundation have been long time supporters of both these organisations, and jointly with the Rotorua Stockcar club are looking forward to the support of the speedway community to help raise a substantial amount of money for these worthy charities.
Many more exciting initiatives are planned to generate awareness of the charities and speedway in general, to make this one of the must-see sporting events of the kiwi summer. These plans and more event information including branding, major partners, format, dates, and invites will follow in the coming weeks and months.

Hope it adopts much more enthusiasm ,giving to charities is very rewarding and the two that have been chosen do a tremendous job for our loved ones when in need . St johns is another ,you know it is a simple phone call when in need ,and they respond ,at times many just think it is just a service provided by the government ,until they realize its not ..

I understand why you chose the dates as you may have some people that chose to go to Vegas for Xmas/New Year. However for people that have family commitments over this time those dates are not great.
It is a meeting that I would be happy to attend but those dates come with family commitments in other parts of the country for me.
Hope it goes well. I love the way Steve goes about getting awesome meets off the ground, and what better track to work with. Great charities also. Agree that St Johns is a great entity that could do with funding. Certainly should be a GOVT funded organisation.

Yep but that 74% should be 100%

Yep but that 74% should be 100% A lot of people think it is funded only by donations. Just thought I would clarify the situation, & remember all the St Johns Op Shops get all their stock they sell for nothing, & all the staff work for free (including my wife who volunteers 2 days a week) except the managers.

Everything you say has merit but the bottom line is that is not how our ambulance service should be funded. I had cause to have to use their services recently. The poor driver was meant to finish at 17:00. He didn’t manage to get me to hospital till after that and then had to get back to base, clean the ambulance and prepare it for the next shift.
Anyway I guess we have hijacked the thread 😀

Ambulance services around most of the country are provided by St John under commercial agreements with the different DHBs (don't get me started on the number of DHBs). If they (st John's) don't have enough to cover their expenses to provide those services then they need to look at their commercial arrangements with the DHBs. St John's, like most "charities" will tell you how hard they have it, cause to do anything else would be bad for business.

It amazes me how all the sparrows jump on the clothes line and fart at once . It must be the charitable thing to do .. The rewards and the smiling faces of children at Ronald Mcdonald house in the Star ship hospital who are less unfortunate in life than many others ,has to be seen . We take so much in life for granted ,Steve Williams has down alot for Speedway sport throughout the country over the years ..

Was a interesting interview the other night on Pits Media with Steve Williams over this Charity Invitational meeting The format was read out sounds good and challenging along with the prize money up for grabs which is attractive to say the least . After listening to it i can only hope all the best run over TWO days in the Christmas break . Thanks Steve your dedication to the speedway sport is outstanding ...

This should be a fantastic meeting and great to see it supporting those charities. Also the celebrity drivers for the supporting races are being named including the latest - Mad Mike Whiddett - with 2 million Facebook followers!! 😀 And names like Greg Murphy, Hayden Patten, and Avalon Biddle (the fastest lady on 2 wheels in NZ!).
The only bummer is can’t be 2 places at once -this meeting 27th and 28th Dec - Stockcar NZs at Waikaraka also on the 28th and 29th (with practise 27th),

Thinking about travelling up for this event and I want to buy my tickets in advance. My small problem is, I have never been to the Rotorua Speedway, so which section would provide the best views. Turn 2 or Turn 3? And Pit End or West End?

Turn 2 or Turn 3? And Pit End or West End? We sit at turn 3 - mainly because it is up higher so you get a better view and have found that since the start line was moved closer to turn 1, the bigger incidents happen when they are at full pace barreling into turn 3 And if you are sitting at turn 3, I would recommend sitting at the end further away from the pits in my experience as it gives you a better angle of turn 1 and 2.
