Maulers win it for the locals. Vulcans never quite able to nail Penn in the lead. Oh well....as a hard to satisfy V man I say well done to Maulers but good to see Mooney back leading a young Wanganui team that will cause headaches to teams for many years to come.

At the Grand Parade before the start of Night 2, the Maulers were carrying around the Rees Shield on the back of the supporters truck.

Wellington Defended Rees Sheild v Wanganui Meeanee defeated Wellington to win Rees Sheild
Meeanee defended Rees Sheild v Wanganui in Final.
Personally it should just go on the line in every teams race that the current host does during the season

The rules for the shield need to be re-written if it's going to hold any sort of real value or meaning.
How about Any winner of the Sheild must accept a minimum of 2 challenges for the Sheild the following season. Can be at home or away (presumably, the holder would want the races to be at home to take advantage of home support and crowd revenue.) If the holder does not accept these minimum 2 challenges during that season then the shield has to be put on the line in every race the following season either at home and away.
So the Maulers must now accept a minimum of 2 challenges next season. If they don't complete this then for the 2022/2023 season they must put the shield up every time they race.

It's always been you have to do two challenges a season but yes something has to be done to get the fans excited.
