Connor Rangi took out the CTRA NZ sprint car championship at Ellesmere speedway yesterday. With a great track the 16 car field showed the huge crowd of spectators how racing can be close and incident free.Matt Honeywell took out the opening heat which was great to see after a dog of season for him.Rangi and Matt Leversedge were going at it back in the pack and these 3 cars looked like they were the candidates for a podium finish.Next heat it was Rangi and Leversedge battling it out but gremlins struck the 78c Toyco car of Leversedge late in the race leaving Rangi with the win.The 20 lap final had Rangi off the front row and with Leversedge a none starter Rangi was gone lapping the end of the field to take out the Championship with Matt Honeywell 2nd and Ben Gilmore all over the back of Honeywell for 3rd.Rangi also picked up $200 for the fastest lap of the day.The South island CTRA TQ champs were won by current SNZ No1 Jeremy Webb 2nd Kyle Glover and Liam McCourbrie in 3rd.Dave Kerr took out the Southern midget series but Mitchell Hill and Glen Durie were the ones who had Kerr in there sights all day.Former stock car driver Hill put in a great drive in the first race to beat home Kerr and Durie.Excellent meeting from a small club congratulations to them especially there track man Stuart Dreaver.

What a great day.
The track was just simply brilliant from start to finish.
All fields had excellent numbers and the racing was great. Seeing cars coming into the corners 4 wide on a smooth track was just out of this world.
The meeting was run slick and professionally by a small club.
Congratulations to all involved you all put on a great show.
