I see in today's Dom Post a funeral notice for Jack Noaro - aged 80. Just curious if that is the same Jack Noaro that drove for the Panthers back in the 70s?

Figured it might have been. If memory serves me correctly, that Panthers team also had the likes of Peter Hetterley, Warwick Sisson, Charlie Berntsen & Roy Eaton (prior to Oceanview being built), Barry McKenzie, Bruce Robertson (in the original tank) etc. Stratford & Wellington were also pretty useful back in those days.

Quite so Roger. Other Panthers from those days include John Viles and John Hanright. I have fond memories of Jack Noaro. He and his family were potato growers at Opiki, and when you drove down the Opiki straight, you could often see Jack's car in one of the sheds. Jack ran a 3.4ltr Jaguar motor in his car, and could either run or block. He liked a beer too, and I have fond memories of a group of mainly Palmy drivers (plus a few from Wellington) who used to gather at the rest area on the left hand side going up the Whangaehu Hill, long gone now, for an amber liquid or two on the way to Sunday afternoon meetings at Oceanview. Things were very different in the 1970's! Rest peacefully Jack.
