You right there Midway, the rebranding of our beloved Mountain came with not only a name change but also a height change. Mt Egmont 8260 ft Mt Taranaki/ Taranaki Mauga 2518 mts Rebranding now NZ changed to Aotearoa seems to be the politically correct procedures Road Transport Forum : the truckies union for want of a description now la Ara Aotearoa Transporting New Zealand When you google Te Reo Speedway you get Te Reo Macgors NZ Speedway Te Reo speedway show in maori on fri nights Maori channel Sat 2pm in English Both pits TV shows Perhaps Percy will need a Midway hat 50/50

I'll be in favour of changing the name of the country when everybody knows the name of the next ship that got here after the Endeavor.
Currently nobody does.

I can find nothing contradictory to this so Parrot wins the Go Slideways online history lesson Able Tasman was the first European to sight NZ but never set foot on NZ. His first contact with Maori was two waka's full of Maori's off of what is now Golden Bay. Tasman sent his men out in a small boat but due to various misunderstandings they rammed one of the waka's and four of Tasman's men were killed. First Maori according to legend arrived in NZ aprox 1,000 years ago in Hokianga Harbour and it was Kupe in his waka hourua from Hawaiki. While Maori lived in both island's, Moriori another Polynesion tribe lived on the Chatham Island in the late 18th century. Disease and attacks from Maori depleted this fun loving tribe and the last full blooded Moriori believed to of died in 1933.

If they get what they want like they are under this govt. my only concern is this. All classes will have to change the rules with regards to side curtains so as the drivers can use their oars properly. Unless they stay with the modern motors

Only knew it because my cousin lives in Kohukohu, on the Hokianga Harbour where there is a plaque which I saw, which got me curious so I researched it a bit as I was never taught that in school in the 1980's. My 3 X great grandfather was one of the earliest captains in NZ and is in the book at the stone store in Kerikeri and has a beach named after him in Auckland, so its like a pet project when there is no speedway on

Glad for that 48hr difference in who landed in Hokianga Harbour 1st as failed French miserably at High School , probably point out that my English not much better. Parrot has also taught us to stop and take the time to read plaques , history lessons often staring us in the face but we just ignore it.

Abel Tasman's ship is berthed at a place called Middleburg, in Zeeland, where our countries white man name came from, province of the Netherlands. I actually went and walked around on it the day Princess Diana was killed, so will never forget it. Showing my age here

Had a group discussion about this with mates over the weekend from many different ethnic backgrounds. We are in our late 20s and all we neither here nor there for it. We were however concerned about the timing and how much it would cost on the 8nternational stage rebranding. As people over seas knew of new zealand. A new country over night would be abit shocking to the rest of the world especially since there is no tormsium going on right now. Might be hard to convince people to come to a place they have never herd of before.
But on the bright side our athletes get to walk in sooner at the Olympics games.
But today's generation doesn't care.

Who would ever have thought that speedway folk could be so diverse and well read in their views on NZ culture and history.

Who would ever have thought that speedway folk could be so diverse and well read in their views on NZ culture and history. I think it is quiet unique that we have a site where speedway is the main core of topics ,but allowed to express opinions on events that happen with in our country and world wide . Thanks must go to Percy .....

I've made up my own mind but fear it might not catch on - "MoriOriville"
"The people who became the Moriori arrived on the islands from Eastern Polynesia and New Zealand around 1400 AD. They had no contact with other people for about 400 years, and developed their own distinct culture. They were hunter-gatherers with strong religious beliefs, and outlawed war and killing."

Those who sailed from the British colonies took one look at it and renamed it Morrinsville

I’m just taking a small break from my decision not to argue online anymore (a decision that has been rewarded with greater happiness by the way) but just wanted to recommend you read up on Moriori history from their perspective. I quite liked e-tangata.co.nz/reflections/moriori-still-setting-the-record-straight/It will help you to stop perpetuating the myth they were inferior and driven from New Zealand. But yes the were subjected to terrible things as were other Iwi in their interactions with other Iwi.
