Speedway New Zealand 31903mo min2srd · The last 24 hours have been extremely challenging as we navigate changes to the Level 2 Alert System and sought clarification around those changes. We have this afternoon received confirmation from Sport NZ of the following – “In the new Alert Level 2 rules, there is no restrictions to the number of spectators that can attend a sporting event, for example a speedway track – as long as everyone can safely stay 1 metre apart. If you are organising an event, make sure everyone records their visit.” Our Level 2 Guidelines have been updated to reflect the clarification and can be found on our website. No doubt the changes will see a number of events rescheduled, there is still a lot of work to undertake in planning events under Level 2. Please monitor tracks social media for changes to calendars and updates on when they will be able to operate. Some venues due to the nature of ownership, will have different restrictions in place. Remember! Please ensure if you are attending as a competitor, crew, official, or spectator that you adhere to the guidelines. For stakeholders in Level 3 restrictions, we hope to see you on the dirt soon!

Under Level 2, they still recommend that people attending an event still wear face coverings.

Hence my other thread on the Championships magilla. This could be a summer for club nights only if the worst were to happen. Although the worst could be no speedway whatsoever, and the best might be a club night. Barry B

Eastland Speedway kicking the season off in Gisborne tomorrow, club day for Superstocks, Stockcars, Youth Ministocks, Streetstocks, Saloons, TQ's, Production Saloons & Sidecars. Weather looks good. Shame the Triples Fest had to be called off before the goalposts were shifted on the club by central governmental decree. Spectators welcome!

Will still go even if not on as will still have fun in chch with mates there. But I WANT TO WATCH SPRINTCARS racing on the best track for sprintcars in NZ

Will be good to hear a few race engines for those that can get there. I hope they don't get more people turn up that they can fit in under the new rules. At least they know that nobody can turn up from Northland, Auckland or the Waikato. Barry B

Havent heard much about the Gisborne meeting. Were the Rees cars there?.Would have been a good testing ground for other tracks to see if its workable or financially viable.

Hate to be the wet blanket but regardless of all the protocols set up, a lot of racers are still going to be hamstrung by parts availability this season.
Just to give you an insight into how screwed up freight is world-wide at the moment, I’ve got a bunch of parts that have been sitting with the freight forwarder in L.A for four months. Been told they will be going into a container this week however there’s no guarantee at all that the container has a ship to go on.
Straight from the source, new tyres for Mods and Sprintcars (and probably as they're from the same supplier, Superstocks) are almost out of stock in NZ.
Straight from the supplier again, Chromoly is rare as the proverbial rocking horse excretia. Chassis builders in Aussie cannot buy direct from the plant like they used to, it's on ration.
Word on the street is that steel is also in short supply, engine builders cannot finish motors as they cannot get the parts, and the list goes on. Unfortunately, there's no end in sight for this.

Did see somewhere that USPS is not longer shipping to NZ in the short term It may all be moot, unless the government can get the Auckland out break under control, I suspect tighter restrictions are likely once this virus gets rolling through the population.

Superstocks have been scrapped from Nelson's opening due to lack of ready/available numbers and no willing travelers.

Love the photo,i see 48n Brett Nicolls was at the Practise the other week as well, hopefully the Tigers will make a come back in the future. Brett was sounding particularly strong and the car has a different note to it. Tigers this season is looking very unlikely but the numbers, when they arrive, are tracking in the right direction. It will take some time to build up to the level required to be a legitimate contender. It took 5 years of development (and lots of team racing) for "The Baby Tigers" before they won the Palmy teams.
