Speedway NZ have published the "Championship Eligibility and Rotation" details on their website. The reference to eligibility I think is a combination of the following two rules: + "(c) Have run the class concerned: (i) Five times in the season (or as per your agreement with Speedway New Zealand) for both the previous season and the one before (two years)" I don't know if the rules go together, in that the minimum car counts are required for a meeting to count towards the five. I assume not as that would be quite a hurdle for the "glamour" classes that have moved beyond regular running at single tracks. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vRgaagbHM9GJkxAJ0lVDhYWwnMVlBueiUMzMnGH-vDLzhWa9V6BTgwwSwnojBa39G7NNBDx2fUtRSur/pubhtml#

Yes, eligibility is a combination of the two criteria.
You need both x amount of registered competitors and to run that class five times with the minimum number of drivers in attendance on each occasion.
In the past the minimum driver number has been unenforceable as no data was collated. However, with the nationwide rollout of mylaps such data will be available provided results are posted to the speedhive portal (which they should be).
The issue of series and being able to meet the five meeting requirement has been discussed at AGM level. It was decided the five meeting criteria should stand, so tracks have to allocate their meetings accordingly. Personally I don't think series are that much of a barrier with the possible exception of South Island Super Saloons.

Superstocks are in trouble if things do decline from current levels. Who on earth agreed to this?
Only rotorua hawkes bay palmy stratford and Christchurch over the last 10 years have meet this cretia each and every year. And maybe Auckland but even they have struggled. I do not even think huntly has even once meet this since last time they had this champs. Wanguni may meet it but it would be very touch and go for them to get 5 with 10 v superstocks. Wellington gisbourne the Mt nelson and kihi kihi may fall short. Did those clubs agree how is it gonna be enforced. I'm shocked at such a high value meeting everybody was more isn't done to talk about tracks that don't meet cretia. That surprises me. I don't agree on many of these entry cretia. And the agm makes a mockery of itself constantly by having these guild lines and constantly ignoring them. Very poor in my eyes.

HBH, there has always been criteria tracks have to meet to be eligible for each and every championship. It's nothing new. And tracks know what the criteria is, so if there's a championship they want to be considered for they need to entice enough contracted competitors, and schedule enough meetings, to get themselves "on the list". The idea is that the tracks that foster the growth of particular classes get to host the championships for those same classes, and they don't just go to a track with a large seating capacity that throws some money at their proposal. And as for your "mockery" comment; what guidelines are they (the AGM) constantly ignoring? Tracks such as Gisborne, Kihikihi and Baypark are well aware of the Superstock criteria, and have been working in recent years to meet the set criteria to make them once again eligible to host major Superstock championships. A couple of questions, which are likely obvious but I'm just curious... 1) Is it only the total number that is relevant to the five meeting rule, not the registered competitor requirement? i.e. A track has 4 registered Modifieds, and across a season they run the grade 5 times - each of which has 3x Locals and 3x Visitors. 2) Is there scope for discretion where this leaves a title with no eligible tracks? Specifically I'm thinking of the South Island Midget title, which realistically only Ruapuna has any hope of getting eligibility for, and they risk falling below that when Midgets are at their cycle low point.

2013 to 2014 season huntly had 1 registed superstock. And took awhile to recover. Recovered for a couple of years. Nelson got stripped while having more supers then huntly had a couple of years earlier. Most of this time period wanguni hasn't been able to field at least 10 superstocks. While it's nothing new it seems that once you gain status then it never gets taken off you. Unless your nelson. And if it wasn't for Jared wade returning to huntly and bringing alot of cars with him for a couple of years. Huntly wouldn't have meet that cretia in the last 10 years ever. The entry cretia to superstocks is abit high if your looking at promoting growth. Why are more budget grades set at 6 when one of the glamor expensive classes to get into at 10. Would love to see it dropped to at least 5. Like I said over the last 10 years. Only 6 tracks have meet this every single season. And it would also bring nelson back into the fold. Which is what every superstock fan wants to see.

And there are waaayyy more Superstocks around than there are most other classes, hence the greater numbers required. The class has had huge growth in recent years, despite your negativity. Barry B

@nz Sauber
1) The two criteria work independently so whilst you need x number of drivers present to count as a meeting there is no requirement to have x number of locally contracted drivers at any given meeting. The drivers who race could all be registered to other tracks and as long as the threshold is met the meeting counts
2) Interesting scenario - I don't recall this happening recently. The SNZ board has constitutional powers under C11(L) to give dispensation from the rules and regulations. The board could potentially use that to allocate a title under such circumstances, though the board would not be obligated to do so and the respective title could be held over.

I thought the numbers were low not high.
If a track doesn't have enough cars and run enough meetings for a class why should they be holding major titles for that class?

So if a class from the springs moved to Baypark for instance and the numbers were low ,you would be happy to watch dodgems and jalopys take there place ...

If BVL get their way that's a redundant question although then I guess any titles they have allocated will need to be run elsewhere
