Hi all, have a miss in my falcon engine at around 5500 rpm, car idles fine and runs good up to the 5500 rpm, have cleaned carb several times and changed jets to bigger ones, any ideas what the issue could be?

Give it a leak down test. Just had the same issue on my engine and the sump was half full of dirt and the bores polished clean of the hone marks creating blow by fouling the plugs

I noticed the crank sensor had a lot of crap on it so I’ve bought a new 1 and new coil pack, getting new leads next week as it’s got new plugs, will be checking for air leak around carb and intake, also got a 500 carb but the butterflies are catching on the carb adaptor, will then also do leak down test too

Giday, Fyi...(1) Vacume leaks only have an effect at idle and light throttle openings because you have more manifold vac then, at full throttle you have minimal vac, therefore less leakage efect. Ie. won't effect high revs. Fyi...(2) If your jetting is too rich the engine can get "fluffy" at the top end. Fyi...(3) If the distributor has points in it, you can get "point bounce", this means that the points are not closed long enough for the coil to build up enough HT voltage, therefore cause "missing" at high revs. Try 0.3 mm gap and close the plug gaps down to 0.5 mm for a test. ( This reduces the chance of point bounce, and reduces the amount of HT voltage required to jump the plug gaps. If no difference, ignition is obviously not the problem. If there is an improvement then take steps to increase HT output. Try running it without the ballest resister (if you are still using one), if improvement is noticed then get a coil with less resistance, this means more current draw equaling more HT output. Fyi...(4) Valve bounce... are the valve springs capable of reving to the revs you require? Tx me if you want, 0272324893. (Free info). PK.

Hey mate, the engine would rev to 6200 in my old car really easy, and it doesn’t have a dizzy, I’ve got new leads, coil pack and crank sensor, the engine seems a lot more responsive and revs to 6800 in neutral, so I’m hopeing the problem is sorted, won’t really know until we on track but hb ain’t racing atm, also very busy at work now after all the damage hb got
