Well done to the Rotorua club on running 4 heats for the stockcar competition weekend just gone, with each driver able to drop their worst finish over those 4 heats, which gives a driver a chance of winning the competition even with a DNF, maybe this format could be used in the future to combat flat tire rule etc, 4 heats for qualifying and finals, would love to see that format at this weekends N.I. superstock champs. .

I think you will find they did the 3-4 format as is common around here, where there are 4 heats and all drivers sit 1 out so actually only do 3 races on the night and therefore only having 3 races to score points. Good try and maybe your onto something though

I can see that there will be opinions both for and against dropping the worst performance. It's something that has been used for decades in sailing competitions (real ones, not America's Cup), and works well for those who can't make it to the finish line through no fault of their own.

The a vs b vs c ect group format would have to be the worst format used in speedway
You get tracks like Nelson with only 23 cars turn up (not even near a full field) and they still split them up into 18 car group races..
Normally the use of an alternative format is when theres over the maximum allowed cars on track 30-40 in some cases
