Thank you, Jase, for your insight into the costs involved in bringing speedway to people's living rooms. Hopefully it might just bring some enlightenment to those that think you run a benevolent society rather than a business. As you say, there is no compulsion to purchase - it's up to the individual to make that decision.

Live-streaming should always be more expensive than the gate price because we want to have people go to the event. The livestream is not a right, it’s a privilege and it’s also a choice for you. If you don’t like the price, don’t whinge about it.. just don’t buy it. This also applies to the gate charges, If you don’t like the price, don’t whine about it.. just do something else. Yes Just do something else I am a Gold Card holder(Speedway supporter for 60 years). My home track charges $25 for entry. Elsewhere it is $15 Gisborne I think is cheaper again. So that is my little gripe. I now just stream the Pits TV which is a high quality product of major events and happy to pay the price.

It's not just the price of streaming or attending speedway that has gone up, so have a little sympathy. Mortgages, rents, fuel, food, the general cost of living, the cost of EVERYTHING has skyrocketed since Covid [plus some of us have become pensioners in the intervening years ] so sometimes people are whining not so much just about the price, but perhaps they're grieving that the sport they have followed for a lifetime no longer fits within their budget. Had inflation not been rampant everything would still be more affordable, but it's not, and there's nothing will make a speedway fan whine more than not being able to attend or stream his/her favourite sport anymore. Speedway followers are extremely passionate about their chosen sport, so expect passionate comment. In saying that, we're extremely privileged to have the quality streaming options that we do have. I have ALWAYS preferred the live experience, and have rarely streamed for all of the years it has been an option. But circumstances change, and streaming may, before not too long, become my only option. Hopefully not for meetings close by for a little while at least, but there will be no more big trips for me, that's for sure. May the quality of the coverage keep improving every year, as it has been since streaming began. Barry B

And on that note, the director will only follow a leader if there is nothing else going on in the race. If you took 5 mins to listen to the commentary, how many times did they say that the field was spread out with not much going on. Figure it out mate.
Jase are you talking to me directly? I can assure you I listened to every word of that commentary. And i can also point you back to my original post which wasnt at all an attack on you, folks can only comment on what they see. Why take it so personally. Just give a decent answer without the attitude. A man says he pays 1.5 times entry fee to watch the feed and asks why, and gets attitude. Its a fair question. It was bonfire night, it was always going to be full. As far as follow the leader is concerned, re read my post, it wasn't critical and I even said I appreciated where the streams had gotten to these days, read it man..or do you have a problem with simple comprehension? If you dont want to be accused of following the leader, don't do it and you cant be! Figure it out Mate!

Nope, hadn't realised diesel had doubled in price! 50% maybe, but doubled? Not double the price .. 2 vans is double the cost on what we used to be ..we used to only have 1 van …sorry I didn’t explain this better Not to worry Jase, I'll still be supporting your streams, while $50 or less.

Thanks Jase2 for the insight of the costings to present Livestreaming to what is in reality a minority specialised sport, I felt like I was an IRD inspector reading that. Customers think they are the only ones that have an investment in the sport wether it be gate entry or livestreaming. The cost to get the privilege of the sport beamed directly into your house is probably less than the cost of fuel to get you trackside then you got entry, food and may be merchandise. The cost of your average run of the mill super stock/saloon would be 10 to 15 times more than what I paid for my new house and section in 72. Livestreaming becoming the only option to many of us with mobility problems to keep in contact with the sport and also cheaper option for those who don't mind not being trackside. We watch far more AB's games in NZ and Super Rugby games streamed than being a spectator, know not comparing apples with apples but an example.

I cant quite understand how the live stream got priced at 45 bucks when entry to the park was 20 and 30. The production was good other than the follow the leader camera work thru some of it, but better camera positions , a professional feel to it and as a watcher since the very first ever live stream of stockies I appreciate that. Let me just say that no one buys the feed to watch the fireworks. And not everyone watching on screen is watching with other people. I was watching alone and paid 1.5 times entry fee. Always love these kind of posts. Haven’t read good old macgors in quite some time and walked into this one. As I sit here nervously waiting to find out what the weather is going to do for Huntly, it’s a good distraction to perhaps give and insight into how livestreaming works for our company. Firstly, we never give figures out in relation to any live-streamed event because people do not believe that we should be making any money off of speedway and we should be doing it all for free. The reality is that in order for us to be able to stream events the cost is very expensive and a bit like anything, people have no idea in what’s involved. In order to stream an event there needs to be a large infrastructure put into place. With the sometimes volume of streamers we get, there is no server in this country that could handle the amount of data we use so we have to go offshore. And also data costs money. For every person that buys and watches a stream, we have to pay for the data they use. Infact, this is one of the reasons that not many of us do full hd streams because of the required data. Last years data costs were just a tad over $20,000 usd. Each one of our broadcast vans are full of the latest and greatest technology with each van costing around $1 million to build over the last 6 years. The new 4K van costs a wee bit more. The cameras that are used to follow the leader are just under 50k each. And on that note, the director will only follow a leader if there is nothing else going on in the race. If you took 5 mins to listen to the commentary, how many times did they say that the field was spread out with not much going on. Figure it out mate. When we set up a stream, the club choose what pricing they will charge and there is a set rate that the track gets back from us depending on what they charge. For example. If the club wishes to charge $25 for a stream, their return is $8pp that streams in. The scale goes up the more they charge. In some cases we have given back over $100,000 to a club over the course of a season and that’s just one club. It’s mind boggling how much we have given back to our speedway community over the years. But we don’t say anything and just go about out work. Currently it costs us around $4000 to visit a track with the associated costs of an event now days. The price of fuel has doubled and we run 2 vehicles, sometimes 3. A broadcast vehicle and a support vehicle. Fuel to Wellington alone topped around $500 not including road kms, wear and tear etc. the ferry costs about a thousand return, we have to feed and pay a crew of up to 15 people a weekend and the list goes on. Live-streaming should always be more expensive than the gate price because we want to have people go to the event. The livestream is not a right, it’s a privilege and it’s also a choice for you. If you don’t like the price, don’t whinge about it.. just don’t buy it. I could go on about the excessive maintenance costs and the bills we get every month that you wouldn’t even think about. Do you know it cost $1900 a month for each van for insurance? Did you know that because of the kms our vehicles are doing that our annual servicing costs 20k a year. Do you know that road kms are $750 for 10,000km and we do 40,000+ kms a year with 3 of our vehicles being diesel? Did you know that on top of the data costs for streaming we also have to pay a fee for every person that buys a stream for processing a payment regardless of whether the meeting runs or not? Did you know that the rain off for the nz Superstocks last year cost our company nearly $12,000?. Do you also know that if we travel the length of the country for speedway and it rains .. we get nothing? We do this because no one else …at the time… did apart from Videohub … it’s a bloody big monster and like any business, has large overheads… but we make it work for the tracks, and the viewers at home. This is just a small insight to what it is that’s goes into it. I won’t go into the 100s of hours that go into editing the footage for YouTube…. I won’t go into the development that goes in so you can sit at home and critique us. I won’t go in to how much we have invested in the new incar technology that will be launched in time for the world 240s…. The costs are fair and will never exceed $50 per stream… but last weekends event was 3 large promotions in one meeting. Personally I am not big on fireworks, but had we cut that off then we would have never heard the end of it. PS have you jumped on a plane so far this year ….that’s one of our biggest costs currently … how many streams a year would you do in the NI vrs SI? do you base gear/vans in a central location during the peak streaming time? Great PR as always

I really hope the incar videos is only featured as a replay, if i wanted to watch incar videos i would watch them on youtube, I want to see the whole field racing i do not want to miss action because the the cameras are only focused on inside one car
Split screens do not work, unless i have a 200 inch tv you can barely see whats going on

Its like when we used to do the drone stuff.... people didnt really like that because it gave them motion sickness, but this year we will be using them for high shots and also flying down the middle of the field on the start line. We wont be using them for chasing the pack. We may use them when there is an accident to see whos involved though.

Great PR as always Well there we go .. another rain out at Huntly ... ouch!!! We are very lucky and have many bases throughout the North Island so we base a van permanently there and one in the South Island now. The vans stay just out of Auckland for when we do Rotorua or Huntly and we base them close to Palmy North when we are in Wellington or Wanganui. the Joblins allow us to leave them there when we are near Stratford. The South Island is easy with the exception of Nelson which is a bit harder to get in and out of easily but we have a base in Blenheim and Christchurch which really is all we need. 60 streams this season ... and pretty even amount throughout both islands....
