So that's not where the old track was, but just north of the Mercer Service Centre on the Waikato River side of the Mercer straight?

Google Maps shows the existing speedway and jetsprint track in behind the dragstrip. Also the website for the NZ Jetsprint Champs gives the location as Meremere Dragway.

I vaguely remember them having jet sprints at the venue l mentioned, but that was a long long time ago. May even just be my poor memory Barry B

Bring back the high banks . And allow open wheel cars to show their real pace on a big wide banked track that nz needs

If this comes together how much damage does it do to existing tracks fighting for existence every season The team at Huntly have put so much effort in to building a venue sure it doesnt suit some classes but it does entertain the speedway public . I would be very surprised if this new venture operated under the control of S N Z . Yes there is a gap for a track especially for sprint cars ,super saloons ,,,do we have the numbers coming forward in these harsh economic times ,or is this just going to end up like the hillbillies of last time ..

Be good for the sport if wasn't snz approved guys can actually turn up and race without the bullnuts as long as set rules are in place car weight etc etc be really good for competitor be good if meremere and Harrisville would run regular Sprintcar shows

A mate had a look in the weekend very disappointed--NOTHING has been done to the Track I don't know what he was expecting. If memory serves me correct the Jet Sprint people, who have been using the venue for the last 22 years, were staging their last ever at the venue over the weekend just gone. I'm assuming whoever has plans to build a speedway there wouldn't have access to the venue until today aat the very earliest. Barry B

Not sure how viable it would be, the Outlaws tried with the Easter Nationals but never got enough people there to make it work... was very basic on the safety side but cool track if they restore the original high bank layout....

One hurdle to overcome will be the traffic congestion heading south then north ,it bad enough when going to drag racing . It will take some time to rebuild and a fair bit of coin , Who actually owns the land is it privately owned .
