Stock Car 15R early 70s (Read 8,518 times)

I have an old Rotorua stock car that raced out of Paradise Valey Raceway 1971 to 1975.

Initially had an "Angle Box" body and later a Hillman Husky body 1973 to 1975. The Husky body was painted red. Driver was Bruce Young from Whakatane.

I have a few photos but would like to see more. Anything would be appreciated.

Thanks for posting the photos pallmall, very much appreciated. Still much work to do with the present task being to set up the 3.3 Cresta engine and gearbox. Also painting of the frame and chassis in yellow as per original colour scheme.

It took me years to find the exact body (mid 50s Hillman Husky) but thanks to very popular NZ trademeing site one was eventually located in the Hawkes Bay during 2006.

The body had at least 6" (150mm) cut off the bottom to make it sit correctly on the chassis.

Steering wheel is Ford Anglia, pedal box is Hillman Hunter.

Front end is Dodge.

Fabricated box section chassis is date stamped 1972 so I guess that was when it was made.

Will update the thread as more progress is made.

Yes these old cars do look great Rover8 - the more we can find the better.

I used to watch this car race when I lived in Rotorua and to have it today is fantastic. This is my third historic/classic stockcar and looks like being the best one so far.

Huge appreciation to Don Scott (Scotty) for the excellent work on the car. I'm happy. ;D

Yep, that right. Thats a picture of it with the Anglia body. Were Owen Coppins and Mark Bennett the same person???

I have an old (not very good )photo of your car,taken in forrest lake pits prior to a mixed team race ak and rot v hamilton,parked next to it is #22 with the same chassis coloring yellow,white barrel catcher,blackbullbar,white wheels,any clues

15R was Barry Young. His brother Doug Young raced 22R which is the car you have described in the photo. They were both of similar design and of the same colour scheme although at one point 22R ended up with a gold coloured chassis. The body on 22R was a Viva I think. Would be great to see the photo.

have been told bruce is the maintainance man at quality bakers riri street rotovegas my old mans freind and im shure if you wanted to call in there he would love a trip down memory lane and will have heaps of photos from that era hope this helps
