One can qualify or pre-qualify numerous ways for this event, which means the winner can be a 2008 title-podium seed, a special invite (both NZ and overseas) or a qualifier through racing on night one. Which meeting has provided the best guide as to where the best of the best will emerge from?

I'm picking Dale Robertson to win. Maybe a Wellington 1 2 3.

You're hopeful..............although to see Dale win wouldn't be a huge surprise. Unless Pete Rees decides to repay the favour from the NZ champs ;D ;D ;D ;D

There may just be a dual duel then. Richard did pretty well at Stratford to finish first equal when every time I looked at him he seemed to by parked in the concrete. He obviously trundles around at a reasonable pace when he's actually moving then. I still have faith they'll be stopped however hahaha

I think who ever comes through qualifying on Friday night in reasonable condition stands a darn good chance. There are some quaility drivers in this field and I cant wait till Friday night for this to start. Let the fireworks begin!!! ;D ;D ;D

Yes, with just the 6 spots (3 per group), and the wildcard entry, to come from qualifying, it's going to be pretty intense. Difficult to say how things might pan out, but anybody with either no points or very few points after one race know the only way they're likely to make the second night is through the wildcard - and hopefully will turn on the appropriate show.
As for night two, what an array of champion drivers. You've heard of a Champion of Champions meeting, this is the Champions Championship, no doubt.

I see the NZs is first in the voting with NIs 2nd and a Qualifier 3rd. So in my totally "unbiased" opinion that means we are picking 3NZ Richard Gaskin for 1st, the North Island champ Dale Robertson for 2nd and either the Stock Shock champ Dave Marshall or the King of the Coast champ Allan Levien for 3rd. Just voicing the opinion of the people of course. ;D

Breakdown after qualifying : Rotorua 9 UK 3 Wgtn 3 Stratford 3 Wangas 2 Chch 2 Aus 2 HB 2 Palmy 1 GM 1
Going by what I saw last nite the Rotorua guys must be hard to beat given the team work that was shown last nite in qualifying and the numbers available to them. They knocked out some of the dangers eg 46W and looked after some of the stronger Rot cars eg 16R. Would like to see the South Island cars at the pointy end at the end of the night. All three showing good speed. Will they be allowed to run or will team tactics dictate everything ?

I hope you did not mean this in a negative way the nine that qualified all deserve to be there Pre qualified 1nz,last year winner over second tier13r,last years winner14r,and the selector's wild card 45r
Thru the groups last night blue Shawn Steward 94r, Clive Pricthard 16r Paul Mabey 89r
Red group 449r Kerry Remnant borrowed car shows the talent of the man.Hope KK don,t claim him And my pick from the night 39r Douglas Stanaway even with all the attention he received in the third heat.
So i think all the above well and truelyibelieve earned their spots
Hope the super stocks can deal to the visitors and keep the trophy at home this year looking forward to a good night

The Wellington Stratford alliance will be hard to beat also, particularly when 2NZ is treated like an honorary Wellington-ion. At the North Island champs there were 9 Rotorua drivers in the finals and the Stratford and Wellington drivers put a stop to there chances with relative ease. Was many of the same drivers too.

My choice of words regarding qualifying and the breakdown Rover8 and westy11 were a little open to interpretation I guess. What I meant was that the breakdown of tracks represented after the final seven cars were added through qualifying and with the one wild card were.... No negative connotations, like you all cars that did qualify either through Rotorua or the Championships or were selected certainly deserved to be there. Two fantastic nights of racing and we will most definitely be back there next year

No Wayne ,not being negative at all . Was one hell of a meeting, the best stockcar action seen for ages. Alot of people i spoke to ,some competitors and some fans thought the format would have been better if it was run similar to the 240,s and more had to race to qualify instead of there being so many automaticlly into the final night. With the 40 odd cars going hard out on night one ,and only 3 from each group making the cut. The overseas drivers deserve to be automatically qualified and maybe up to 5 nz cars . This is a view shared among quite a few people ,not only mine . It was a top meeting.
