A few new faces and cars, no slugs amongst them which will put me further back in the field. Looking forward to racing with Ash in his recycled Tony Cardwell car. A big committment for competitors, putting themselves and their cars at risk, with the saloon NZ Champs 10 days later. A number will definetly be strong contenders to take out the champs.

Can anyone beat Phil this year Murray or will he be Tow-good ;D ;D Certainly has to be a 'hot' favourite. But Nige Mouat 63a looks quietly confident and relaxed ..

Not one baypark car, I think that it is dissapointing not to have at least 2-3 b/park cars in the series. How many registered b/park saloons cars are there, 33 & most are good cars. What is the reason for there exclusion? ? 5 Auckland cars I thought this series was about having the best of the best but without bay cars in it is not the case is it! wouldn't it be the best to have 2-3 in form drivers from each track, you have to give every one a fair go!!!

Initiated originally as a vehicle to promote the saloon class (was limited saloon) to the speedway and wider community. Also, to raise the level of professionalism and assist generate support to become a national class now achieved. I understand effort was made to try and get maximum participation from a variety of tracks. Two Baypark cars were invited but for reasons unknown to me are now unavailable, could be work committments, focus on Saloon NZ Champs. Few of the Baypark cars support other tracks with no stand-downs at Baypark and a 19 meeting season. Baypark is the only track that does not welcome visiting saloons, and some would say, support those tracks and competitors that support others. Word has it this may be the last North Island Series of this type, with a likelyhood being an expansion of the recent North versus South Series as more saloons are registered in the South.

The series is / was sanctioned by SNZ.Do you mean, an official North versus South competition, initiated by, promoted by SNZ? If so, we'll be waiting a long time! Does it happen in any other speedway class?

Its a shame about the baypark situation but maybe a few more cars should of been invited, say 5 then at least then one or two may enter. But anyway whats done is done. Is there any travelling money not including prizes to help each driver, say $200 a meeting, wouldnt go far but would help. I think accomodation would be a killer over a short period of time. The series is a good one for saloons & should stay. I wonder how much DHL put into it as they get good coverage & promotion. Massive company!

Who knows how many were invited from Baypark? I only know that two had indicated their acceptance earlier in the season. I do know that my daughter and son-in-law were going to crew for me in Gisborne on the 26th, but had to pull out - surprise, surprise ... Baypark are holding the final of their local cars only 'lazyboy saloon series' on the 26th Dec. and 13m has survived well in the first two rounds.
"I wonder how much DHL put into it as they get good coverage & promotion. Massive company!" Whatever they put in, it's largely due to the efforts and participation of Steve Williams. Last seasons series had a total prize / travel pool in excess of $25,000 for the 7 meetings, less the two rainouts at Huntly and Rotorua.

Towgood , Service , Heuval and Guy are all baypark cars from last season - For various reasons they have regd at other tracks
The baypark saloons seldom leave their home track , so it will be very interesting to see how many of them travel to Auckland for the nationals - Baypark is a large and big horse power track so many of their cars/drivers would not go well on smaller tracks -
The last couple of nights of the series clashes with the Lazyboy series at Baypark .

You can't perceive them as running for Baypark. Most cars are in the 450- 550 hp bracket. Gear sets & set up is the only changes needed, Most of the Baypark drivers are capable of running on smaller tracks.(if not all) Super saloons 600-750 h/p have no problem running on smaller tracks. As for the lazyboy series clashing with the DHL series it is not good timing from the promotor knowing full well DHL is running. Baypark could of had a normal night for saloons. Anyway all the best to the drivers in the DHL series & may it continue in the future.
