Sorry all, I didnt mean to upset anyone or even slag Shane or even emply anything based on events of his racing career. He is arguably the best drivers ever, ive been a fan his whole career. Sorry to his fans, family or critics for saying it.
I just got caught up in the Championship scenario supporting my track & thought sometimes team mates help each other out if it gets heated on the track.
I shouldnt have said that about a great ambassador for the sport and wont bring negative comments about drivers we all love to watch

Dont know what it is but I have never seen anyone have a go it him Seem to remember Scott Miers nailing Shane Penn and Rodney wood in the same hit a couple of seasons ago. Great video on YouTube of it somewhere. Knocked Penn out if I remember rightly.

didnt shane penn get 2nz at the nz champs in stratty a few seasons ago. if im correct this was odne with 2 wins and a dnf thus showing that a driver can still achieve even with a dnf.
Shane obviously thrives to do his best and like elsewhere in this thread has done this again this season whilst making few enemies except those on here that disagree with his tactics and on track decisions.
was he not spun out of contention for 1nz by darcy hunter in akl. did he not hold fwj in the wall at palmy. did he not make sure hunter did not win the nth islands, thus helping Hemi to win. was this wallling of Darcy somewhat payback for the akl nzs when darcy spun penn.
Were there not 6 or 7 palmy cars in the finals. 2 or 3 of them where in with high chances of podium postions. this leaves another 3 cars that could of or should of helped them. Did anyone else besides 3nz Penn let down their team mates as has been stated in this thread

In Auckland Shane was still contracted to Hawke's Bay, he had no help from the other HB drivers, in fact one of them got in his way. At wanganui he was also a HB driver so naturally no palmy driver would help him out.

This is a very interesting topic.
But I think you guys are getting carried away with personalities with this topic. It really doesn't matter what driver is being discussed, because each driver can do & race how he chooses
Shane Penn is one of out TOP NZ racers who has achieved nearly all you can in his class.........Nearly everything... I would bet that his life would be complete if he could get that 1NZ !!!!!!!!!!!
The only thing I have observed over the years....is that....... no matter who the driver is...........without fail to achieve 1NZ you just about ALWAYS need some help from other drivers out there.......
...........Just a little something all title contenders need to keep in mind through a season
Cheers

well after talking to chucky (77p) on the weekend i no he was over the moon he said that just to qualify for the 240s was a great acheivement for them especially considering the class of cars and drivers in the green group but to finish 5th overall at the champs in there first full season of supers was fantastic most of these guys are mates off the track and go hard on the track lets just congratulate them all for putting on a great weekend of racing

I guess until you actually drive a car & you are a competitive racer yourself you wont understand why people drive the way they do. As many are aware there is price money at stake as well as titles so you race as an individual unless its teams racing. So come on guys stop bagging individuals for racing to win.

In my opinion Shane Penn knows what he is doing. He ended up 5th equal in the world 240s with Dave Tennant.
Although Collingwood and FWJ were 12 points ahead in 3rd and Hickey 2 points ahead in 4th if these three drivers had been taken out (as many would expect they should be going into last heat) Shane would of found himself in 3rd equal with chance of run off for podium finish.
This doesnt sound as selfish etc as so many of you are saying

Jeez, we always seem to fall upon this tired old argument!! Just cause someone expresses an opinion doesn't mean they have to go and buy a car to prove themselves worthy of that opinion. Discussion Board.....Hello!!!!

Not quite right there I think . The man paid his money to watch and has every right to form an opinion. Listen to talkback after a rugby game , none of the above posts is any different . In fact I applaud everyone for being so polite which is an indication of the high regard people have for Shane Penn and his abilities on the track . I'll admit to not being comfortable with this thread but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be here and it does give feedback as to what many fans desire from their favorite racers .

Why all of the moaning , Peter Bengston did win the title . If he had lost because no Palmy cars helped would be different. As for Shane Penn , he has always been up there as a competitive driver and mostly done it on his own. The thing is he is still right up there and will give anyone in the country a run for their money. A top car and a Top Driver. His father Bryce falls into the same catagory.
