I would have thought that going by the title " New Zealand stockcar teams" it means that any team could enter? If all the teams that wanted to enter were entered by the cut off date then i thought it would have been up to the club / promoter to arange the event around the amount of teams he was given?? Its like saying that i would only invite 20 of the country superstocks to contest the New Zealand Superstock title and bad luck to the rest Should be open to any team that wishes to enter

The answer to the question in the title is no.

4 groups of 4 teams could work not as round robin it wouldn't ... some teams have trouble doing 2 races in one night, never mind three.

Have to agree with Visacard. If it is a NZ Championship event then surely it is not an invitational event but dependant on the number of teams, the format would be determined by the number of entries recieved by the deadline ? I hope that WG gets a team in and there is at least a couple of South Island teams competing. Whatever happens we are looking to making our way down to Wgtn as we really enjoyed the meeting we went to last season ( Steve Williams was there, I think it was the last nite of the season ) Anyway, last year sounded fantastic so bring on the 27th December !

Basically this is no more a New Zealand title than the Superstock event at Palmy. If it was an SNZ title then all clubs running stockcars would be eligible to run it on a rotational basis, just like the individual titles. The main difference between the stockcar teams and the superstock teams is that the winner of the event gets the right to host it next year. Essentially this is a track promotion, and therefore they can rule on format, number of teams entered etc. To be fair, Wellington has been very open to new teams and ideas.

The Greenstone Grizzlies made the call in the offseason to focus on getting some teams experiance in the SOuth Island before making the big investment in travelling to wellington for potentially 4 teams races in two days.
We still have a lot of learning to do, and with the cost of getting there we want to make sure we can take a competitive package.
We will get there, just not this year.

Sounds like you are taking a well thought out approach Mr Observer. By waiting till next season you might only have to travel to Blenheim

Sounds like you are taking a well thought out approach Mr Observer. By waiting till next season you might only have to travel to Blenheim The Blenheim team are hard chargers all right. Making it through to the final night will be the first step, its a different ball game come finals time. This year could be wider open than normal. On Saturday Josh Kahui did the fastest lap of the meeting amongst some good machinery. A Levian has all the experiance in the world. THrough in 2nz, the new potaka car, Beechie, Maybe Dion Mooney and that Wanganui team is looking potent. Lets not forget Tony James who placed at the NOrth Islands last year, and you have a team with serious pace, and some serious hitting power. At the end of December there is only going to be one place to be. The teller will be who can qualify with the least damage - and wellington still have to be favourites with there ability to finish races with all there cars running.

4 groups of 4 teams could work not as round robin it wouldn't ... some teams have trouble doing 2 races in one night, never mind three. 2 solutions to keeping 2 races per team for qualifying would be to have each team race 2 randomly draw team,( or maybe have seeded teams draw unseeded) and race purely for points. The top 4 become the semi-finalists, 1st vs 4th, 2nd vs 3rd. Or have knockout format. Top 8 from last year draw a team each, the 8 winners then race to find the semi-finalists. I think no matter what format or how many teams compete, stockcar class teams racing is the best form of entertainment in speedway and Wellington have done a great job of running the event.

I agree having an extra car per team is sensible, but think 5 cars per team racing is much better. One of the contributing factors to my view that stockcar class teams racing is the best entertainment in speedway is the 10 cars on track instead of 8 as the superstocks have.

Any news or updates regarding this ? Ramjam can you assist ? Thanks in advance I have just reposted on www.wellingtonspeedway.co.nz what I put up there late last week. It is the format, including the Plate comp for the second placed teams in each group, the seeded teams and the 12 teams we expect to be there. I am led to believe that most of those teams named have confirmed. I think there is maybe 3 who have expressed interest but are still to confirm. The good news is with two teams waiting in the wings .... it will def be 12 teams from 12 citys/towns. As soon as there are more details they will be posted, Hope that helps Rebel 1, come say hi while your down for the event.
