Things we liked about the NZ champs : ... Nigel Ross trying to race in the consolation race ;D Excellent. ;D ;D ;D For those that weren't there: Nigel Ross qualified for the finals BUT by mistake went out onto the track to compete with the non-qualifiers. Moments like those you need minties!

Quote BOPWAIKATO: "How did the Sidecar and Super Saloons go at Huntly on Saturday ..."
Only three super saloons and only value was to provide space for the saloons to prep their cars. However, couldn't help but be further impressed with the smooth driving style of Craig Cardwell, displaying mature skill sets way beyond his years! Will be watching Craig with interest at the Super Saloon NZ Champs in Cromwell.

What do you predict the results to be if the re-run was not the case and if the Valvoline #3nz turned up (still not sure why he didn't, when he has 2 cars?) It never ceases to amaze me, and there were comments in the earlier thread on the meeting as well, that some people think you can change cars during a meeting. Because I have no idea... ...is there a rule on how much of a car can be repaired and or replaced during a meeting? Can they replace wheels? Can they replace the body? Can they replace the exhaust system? Can they replace an engine? Can they replace broken suspention? Can the replace structual elements - if so how much? I know this could end up being a "washington axe" thing but how much can be replaced before it ceases to be "the car" any more. There was another thread that was asking the question on whether the title belonged to the driver or the car and everyone responding to it said the driver and definately NOT the car. When a driver registers for the champs does the car get registered too? You state your position with such certainty so where is the line?

You state your position with such certainty so where is the line? There are cases where engines have been swapped, and roll cages replaced too (although possibly not at NZ champioship meetings?). Where is the line? I guess probably the main chassis, but must admit I'm not sure if it's in the rulebook or not. I just know it can't be done. I'd suggest the entry form - and people must remember that championsip entry forms do contain a lot of information, and these are approved by SNZ before being sent out to competitors - probably contains a line which covers the replacing of the racecar once the meeting has begun.

When a driver registers for the champs does the car get registered too? The entry form incudes driver and car type and race number details. Race numbers are not duplicated (EG: 13R). The car is effectively registered when scrutineered and the log book filled in. One car (13R), one log book. To compete a car goes through scrutineering. Every saloon has it's own identifiable numbered tag. Reality is, a competitor could change everything bar the roll cage to which the tag is attached!

So Steve could have changed the motor on Saturday morning, resubmitted the car for checking and taken his place in the finals? Are the engine sael numbers recorded on the entry form? I know of superstocks that have changed engines between qualifying and the main race, so long as the engine is sealed and the paperwork submitted at checking its all OK. This comes under the heading of "if only", but it would have been good to see Steve going for the title again, the guy seems to have the worst luck at saloon titles, though more than makes up for it at Super level.
