As a past street stock driver i think this class is just great when there are a heap of cars dishing it out and racing as streety should. When i "retired" 5 seasons ago so did 14 other Huntly drivers, and we had 20 cars racing. The class just slowly disappeared over the next season . it was just time to step out of racing into other things, many of them still are actively involved in speedway and some have gone onto other classes. The ones who are into stock cars now all talk about the lesser hours of maintenance that is required to keep a car on the track. I know that it was about 15 to 20 hours a week to just straighten the car back out for the next weekend and most of that was panel work. In the upper north island (taupo north) i only know of Auckland, Rotorua and Kihikihi running the class and the cars are getting fewer in numbers. Streetys was a way to get into speedway and it was relatively cheap but productions now offer that way in and mini stocks are giving many new young drivers other options. The street stocks have also not helped their own case with just so much "bad" happenings and controversy at major meetings. it is a great class but it suffers from a car image thing where many take alot of pride in how the cars look when they hit the track and many just turn out in a car that looks completely battered, image is a harsh need at times when attracting public. i always look forward to them racing and always will and i do hope that the numbers regrow and the class gains the numbers needed to be a fully functional national class again

i guess another issue to, is manufacturers dont build cars like they use to, with cars being softer with crumple zones etc. now days if you ding your road car it gets written off and you just go buy another. hardly helpful in a contact class. have yet to see a front wheel drive streetie but believe there is a mitsi v300 about. maybe this is the begining of the end for this class. i hope not, but cant see the future being like it was in the past. ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png)
