The excuse offered by some people, that anyone checking belts etc is liable should something go wrong is a total crock and one that needs addressing by SNZ. Exactly, and if you read back the person who said it also said evry track in the USA has paid staff and no vollie's ... Then had the nerve to say he hadn't made any silly statements.

This is complete crap. Some idiot decides he will go against every rule and put himself and others in harms way and when Karma kicks him in the butt he blames SNZ and Baypark Promotion. I don't need my belts checked before I race and I don't need somebody to make sure I have the correct safety items on because I am not stupid enough to put myself in this position. Mr MacDonald chose to compete in the Demo Derby. He checked his gear in and then chose not to wear it thinking he would get away with it. He didn't get away with it and now HE has bought the sport that I love into a negative light.
Excuses is all this idiot has got. Maybe he needs the time in Waikato hospital to think about how stupid his actions were and how he could have put the lives of volunteers at risk. Waving his arms in the air like a hero when he should have continued to seek medical attention showed the intelligence of this fool.
This is my opinion of what I saw, whether my views are right or wrong... it's still my view.
I am disgusted with MacDonald. I must reiterate that although disgusted with this pathetic loser, I do however hope that he recovers from his injuries... and hope he gets into the sport so somebody rolls him on his roof.

Willie dosent need apologists and thats the tone of Nellies posts. Something else im sick of hearing in constant rotation, whether in reference to tracks or officials,is the word "volunteer" and the notion that this mitigates mediocrity. Every major sporting event in the world relies on volunteers,so to suggest that speedway in NZ can continue to cover mediocrity by trotting out the volunteer line is a joke.

I totaly agree with Hydrotron. This clown in the derby car is a total fool. Last nights paper had his wife blaming Baypark for the incident. She said that due to his lack of experience in racing it wasn't his fault he wasn't wearing overalls. WHAT? The piece of paper he signed said to wear overalls,he took overalls with him to the track, the briefing said to wear overalls and the other 74 competitors were wearing overalls. How much experience does someone need? As Nellie said, we are going to get dick heads driving when it is an open race like that and they have to suffer the consequences of thier own actions. And yes Nellie. I also lock my toolbox up on derby night. The only time I have to.

Truth is, tripod1 nor anyone else wouldn't have a clue who was wearing what, as the OTHER 74 weren't checked either! The other 74 just escaped catching fire!We are surrounded by folk who never mess up it seems! Just as well BP got them to sign a piece of paper!

So just out of the blue, he decides to go in a demolition race without any knowledge of what's involved.
Yeah right.
