Another name I heard was Grant Lightfoot, who if memory serves me right, and at this age it sometimes does'nt, used to race in the opposite direction on 3 wheels at Oreti Speedway. Still could be a field of around 15.

Lightfoot used to run pretty much anywhere there was a dirt oval and sidecars - was pretty good at the task too - be interesting to see how the conversion goes.... Sdemon

Seems that Floyd struggled getting a suitable block. Still 15 of this strength will provide the fans with plenty of excitement. I think it is too close to call. Thoughts anyone?

You are right, it will be hard to pick. Jason Scott has had a lot of seat time with the racing he has been doing in the NI. Danny Mayson has had a good run this season with good placings. Not sure on how the Invercargill boys have been doing this season but there biggest setback will be getting use to the Ruapuna track. Scotti Savage and Matt Honeywell have come on in leaps and bounds and have had some good results as well. Karen had a good start to the season and if her back problem is all sorted she should go well. Kevin Freeman has not had a lot of seat time but as shown at the gold cup can still pull it out of the bag when he has too. Glen Everett is another one who has had a good run this season and has the extra need to try and defend his last seasons first place. Mike Gouley can show good speed when he gets his car hooked up. Me,(Lindsay) well I will be just trying to keep four wheels on the car and hoping there is good drive up top, but the stress of harvest and lack of seat time will be very much against me. Janette did not have the best start to the season after a two year break but has come a long way since then. Steve Mora had some car problems early on but has also picked up good speed recently.
So that is my brief summary of my own thoughts. Thanks Lindsay Gilbert.

hmmm....thoughts....havent seen a heap of sprintcar racing this season at Ruapuna due to other commitments, but here goes.... Jason Scott = FAST, but seems to be somewhat plagued lately with engine woes Danny MaYson = consistant and never out of control, one of the very few this season that hasnt been caught out by slick Ruapuna track - does have a fetish for walls at other tracks though! Glenn Everett = Top contender, quick and tidy - usually somehow ends up getting caught out in others incidents These are my picks for finishing "in" the top three....not an easy choice though with so many calibre drivers knocking on the door - watch for the likes of Forsey, Savage, and the Exciting Gilbert to throw a few spanners in the works......... hmmm....my thoughts dont paint a very good pick eh? give some points for- and then throw in and against! Sdemon Edit: as Gilby has posted the Invers guys are an unknown - could there be a dark horse from the deep south?

too close to call me thinks, as for the invercargill boys, Barry Innes is new but fast and chris hope is very smooth and fast, both were good in cromwell and neither can be counted out!

I am sure Jase will have it all sorted in time. The weather for the weekend is as follows (of the farming website) Southwesterlies at first on Saturday with some cloud. Becoming fine and sunny during the afternoon with northeasterly winds developing. Warm northwesterlies freshening for a time on Sunday morning with high cloud increasing, southwesterlies developing during the afternoon with a few thundery showers, then cloudy with drizzle patches at night.

Is Ray Baughan Racing?

Ray was not entered originally, so I guess the list will be as the final 15 previously mentioned. Still in speedway you never know what may happen. Weather in ChCh is brilliantly fine, high of 30 deg and not a dot on the rain radar. All the best to competitors and crews, wings up wheels down and enjoy your racing.

Some results rom SI Sprintcar Champs. Final field of 14. Chris Hope and Barry Innes both ex In'gll were no shows. Ray Baughan was in. Heat 1 12 laps At chequered flag it was 97 Danny Mason followed by 75 Kevin Freeman and 95 Ray Baughan. Mason was relegated 1 place for jumping the start, so official result was 75, 97, 95. #44 Allan Chapman rolled during this heat and was out for the night. Rest of field finished as follows. 58 Jason Scott, 38 Karen Forsey, 51 Matt Honeywell, 12 Glenn Everett, 19 Scotty Savage, 17E Steve Mora, 18 Lindsay Gilbert, 4 Michael Gourley, 17T Grant Lightfoot, 42 Jeanette Doyle and 44 DNF. Heat 2 12 laps At chequered 17E Steve Mora, 58T Jason Scott, 12 Glenn Everett. 58T relegated 1 position for incident with 4 Michael Gourley. #4 was out for the rest of the night. Official result then was 17E, 12, 58. Following order was 19, 38, 18, 51, 75, 95, 97, 17T, 42, 4DNF. Final 20 laps At chequered after a few yellows it was 38 Karen Forsey 1st, 58T Jason Scott 2nd, 18 Lindsay Gilbert 3rd. Rest of order 12, 95, 97, 19, 17E. Sorry missed any others there. A bit of history there with Karen the first female sprintcar driver to pick up a title. First 3 cars in final had the eight as part of their numbers and all three were yellow in colour. Story here? Probably not. All entrants need to be congratulated for some great racing.
