I can confirm (at time of writing) there will be at least 3 doing the trial this year. Very likely this number will increase to 6. There are also a number of fence sitters, & from all accounts the trial has been quite a success with Mike Gaskin leading the way, & with feedback from Paul Demanser & Dion Mooney, I think we're close to the mark with this engine - all boxes ticked thus far. Depends on how you define 'good'. I've had plenty of those character building moments already. Good to be back though, being part of what we all know is/was the best kept secret in world motorsport - the NZ Superstock class. Things have changed a little in my 10 year absense, faster being the biggest one, but also the expense. Are you still hobbling around? Back next season dude? BL

I think the trial enging is a great idea but seriously will it ever get the vote to become a fully fledged engine option in the class? I base my question on the fact that the drivers make the rules, why would anyone vote to make their 70-80k engine be potentially obsolite? I mean the cheaper option will work with getting more cars on track but will the current drivers want to protect their investment and resale value of their car. No a negitive question in intent but one im sure others are asking? maybe this is not the best place to ask the question but Is it time for a inderpendant body to set the engine rules etc for the betterment of the sport?

Hi Mike, you've asked a valid question, & one which I thought would be the main hurdle, but as it happens there is actually quite a lot of support from many drivers (not all) with the big hitter engines. Not all drivers are happy with the $10k annual freshen up's they seem to need, & if they do lunch well that's even worse. This option, & it is only an option, will allow the budget to stretch out & allow them to stay on track, instead of sitting in the garage, most drivers understand that. I think most drivers realize race engines have a very high depreciation rate. I'm pretty comfortable this will go through, but if it doesn't & more tracks end up with not enough cars as has already happened, then those drivers assets are likely going to be far less valuably anyway wouldn't you say. Thanks, BL
