it has a different order on the website with woodford glen on the 21st and no greymouth (?) Much to the disappointment of Steve and Kirsty, contrary to previous advice, Woodford Glen Club has just advised they now choose not to participate. The up side is that this opens up an opportunity for Greymouth. The downside is, the Glen is a much favoured track as is the City of Christchurch. This DHL Southern Saloon Series will certainly be an 'opportunity of a lifetime'for north and south saloon competitors. For those in the north to experience the awesome tracks and hospitality of the South (as in, OFF the track!).Our sourthern friends now have the added incentive to convert their A-grades to saloon specs over this winter. If in doubt as to the saloon specs, ASK! Perhaps if I keep my car a southern track might cover my expenses to register in the South, and race in this series. One way or another, either with a race car or a motorhome, I'm sure we'll be around. Wish it was in January for the Cherries!

Steve and Kristy won't be the only ones left disappointed...
There are a few competitors at the glen converting their toys to ltd specs and I'm sure they would have loved to see this event at their home track...
It would most definitely have been worthwhile for spectators too.

Mmmmmm at one point I remember racing at the Ronnie Moore stadium in ChCh as well in my super, that was a great night and only just a hop over the hill to Greymouth for the next event, maybe someone could give them a ring? It would be the next logical place if the Glen don't want to run the event

Will A-Grades from Christchurch be able to enter in this event?? Cheers This is the DHL Southern Saloon Series and I understand this series is open to 'saloons' only. The past two seasons the North vs South series have included A-Grades for obvious reasons - there were no saloons in the south. Not pretending to, or speaking for Steve, BUT I'm certainly looking forward to the day when a South Island track puts up their hand to host a SNZ Championship saloon meeting. While, perhaps, frustrating for those who choose to remain as A-grades, Steve's promotion and support of saloons in the south will advance the date when saloon championships are held. It may be that support racing at some of the host tracks may include A-Grades. Note that the DHL Southern Saloon Series is not, as in previous seasons, North vs South. On the track it is every man (or woman or those unsure) for themselves only.

I know its a bit premature but we are planning our next seasons spectating trips and would like to know how long it would take to drive between the tracks and how long from the Ferry to Cromwell? Would suggest a couple of days either side to enjoy the sights, and sample a couple of the stunning vineyards that you'll be driving through. The Central Otago Pinot Noirs are 20 minutes from Cromwell, as is queenstonwn, and indeed around cromwell there are some fantastic sights. Going from Invercargill to Greymouth is a decent drive, at least 8 hours. Console yourself that you are travelling through some of NZs finest scnery, world famous national parks, two glaciers, and past NZs highest mountains. The scenery is close that you drive with your mouth open most of the time, which means best of all its free, and you dont need to take too much time stopping, it justs goes on. Your best going back through wanaka past the southern lakes, and onwards through Haast Pass, and up the west coast to greymouth. You can break that trip up by stopping a night on the way through - be aware though, if you stop at a glacier, you will have 4 hours to go till greymouth in the morning. Grymouth usually race at 4pm in the afternoon, so will give you time to get there if you want to have a quick look at Hokitika, then greymouth on the way. I'll have to co-opt you as pit crew in between saloon races as well i think! The saloons will be in for a treat on the coast, the wide corners and drive the track offers will be fantastic for a field of saloon cars.

I have spoken to Steve Regarding the possibility of racing at ruapuna on the fri night. I feel this is a logical step to show case the class of saloons in the canterbury region. Steve is going to make some enquiries into running there and get back to me.
Regards Phil
