... All motorsport on TV now days has in car cameras, love em or hate then (no names;-) they are a must! My incar camera is now on the front of my motorbike. I'll put it back in the car at non SNZ tracks. Been meaning to check the resolution put and passed at the AGM banning in-car cameras. I wonder if they put in an escape clause (fine print) to allow them on application to the track steward or similar. If not, the promoters and SNZ looking to protect their backsides might have shot themselves in the foot!

bizzarely, sky seem happy to broadcast obscure sports that perhaps would not attract a lot of veiwers, and yet speedway is one of nz,s premier spectator sports and there is very little of it. im sure the attendance figures nationally would back that up. I think you will find it is just filler, and costs them very, very little because it makes it to a worldwide audience.. probably a freebie thru Sky england or something. From my experience (ive worked for them, and indirectly Freeview in the past), they lure people with Rugby.. League.. Indy etc.. do a good job at that and then not care that noone watching is interested in the World Tiddlywinks Champs.. or NFL.. or NBA.. or LaCrosse etc Does Sky actually film any sports that will ONLY have an appeal to New Zealand audiences?

Obviously I think It would be great.About 5 or 6 yrs ago we had a HBay tv channel that covered Meeanee meets. They would have the meeting from a fortnight previous and covered the whole meeting. You would'nt get that sort of coverage but any tv coverage puts the sport out there for non speedway viewers to see has to be good and from there you get thier interest and hopefully they will want to see the racing live next time.

Most of the people that go and watch speedway live, would love to watch it again on tv, even up to a month later I don't feel, for the expense, that we're achieving anything if the people we're targeting are those that have already attended and want to watch it again, or to cater for those that have to work at weekends and cannot make it to the track. Speedway on TV? I'd love to see it........but only done right and only if it's achieving anything while we're paying for it. If they were paying us? Well that's a whole different story.........

I've said it for years... Why don't Sky have a motorsport channel? ? When it comes to viewing speedway on TV I've noticed most footage has been shot high up looking down on the track, which makes the action look very slow and at times boring... If I was living the dream, I would think outside the square.....Its all about how you capture the footage. This is how i would do it.... I would have two cameras at opposite ends of the track in the usual place, high up back from the fence, 2 mobile cameras on the infield and 4 mobile cameras covering all 4 corners from the outside of the track plus one camera in the pits. To top it off have one or two cameras deciated to capturing uniquie angles, that have the risk of being destroyed, in return for the money shot... Also during the week between racing, visit various workshops, get interviews etc. All motorsport on TV now days has in car cameras, love em or hate then (no names;-) they are a must! Great, 11 cameras plus in-cars. Who's paying for your coverage? That will definitely take some thinking outside the square. Sadly, yes, the current action does look slow, but that's more due to budget (a lack of) than anything else. The reason why infield cameras don't work that well is the same reason rugby doesn't flick from a camera on one side of the field to the other, during play. It confuses the viewers (cars/players suddenly switch from going left-to-right to right-to-left), but they are useful for replays of incidents.

Running a poll on here to ask if Speedway people would watch Speedway is like asking a kid in a chocolate shop if he would eat chocolate. we are already fans and of course would watch it. This is where speedway continually lets itself down nationwide. It is the non speedway people you need to ask this question of. It is also them that a tracks advertising should be directed at to bring new fans to the sport...Speedway must stop preaching to the converted......But yeah I would definately watch it on the box...
