Agree, taking the kids through the pits to see the cars and meet the drivers is a big buzz for them. Bit of a backwards step to charge for that.

This is for during the meeting. better than no crew shirt no entry isnt it?currently you cant be in the pits unless you are working on a car. this way if you want to be nosey during the meeting you can be. before and After the meeting will be free still id say. Well thats my understanding of it anyway! as long as pit passes are only sold to those with a functioning brain I will be happy, pits are dangerous during meetings. Nearly skittled ( accidentally of course ) a few retards for not watching where they were going in the pits

as long as pit passes are only sold to those with a functioning brain I will be happy, Thats the bit I find scary about the idea, not so much the charging bit but admitting joe public (in this case Joe Jafa, even) for a wander through an active pit area. Short of administering an IQ test, I can't see how letting anyone willing to pay to enter the pits during racing could possibly be considered a wise move.

to be honest i dont like this idea one bit. 1). will this cause too much over crowding in the pits? what do others think? 2). i guess they are doing it for the kids to see close up of what goes on but to be honest its the kids who would be most likely to get hurt, not watching what they are doing and causing an accident. pit viewing is better left for before and after the meeting in my opinion. sorry wp, although things are looking pretty bright for the future this is one solid X in my books.

i don't see it as an issue
there are minimun age standards for young people in the pits, children should be supervised anyway, in the pits or not. some other clubs have open pits at all times.
personally, i think they should go further and offer a guided tour ( for an extra fee ) with meet some key favourite drivers.
one of the issues that a lot of clubs face is funding, and every little will help.
also, in the past i have been aware of a few grumpy people who have been refused pit entry as not dressed in team clothing, when in fact they had a genuine reason for seeking pit entry.
safety of course is the main issue, and i guess this policy will remain under review.

Its a fantastic idea - I would absolutley pay extra for the previlidge of getting into the pits during racing.
It sucks not having access when spectating at some tracks. Paying a little extra would be a million times better than being shut out of the pts.
Good work Team Waikarka. We all know you have a small pit area to work with, so a good way to stop the casual, but to support the committed.
cheers from one happy punter

As a drivers wife with young kids the most frustrating thing about speedway is not being able to go to the pits. I know the safety issues etc but they love helping Dad clean the car and when things have gotten heated / busy yes they can be put in the back of the truck. I am either stuck up the top with them or they can't come. Especially after accidents it would be good to be able to go and check on him. When travelling it is near impossible how are we meant to find a babysitter for example in Wanganui for the title. Or we are left with leaving them behind for the whole trip (very tempting). Then there is the nights when weather is a bit dubious and other people have the luxury of leaving but no I can't go back to the pits. I really appreciated Rotorua's system, arm bands with car number on but available even for the kids. Any problems you know who they belong to. I'd happily pay $5 for access to the pits. Grumble over. Speedway is supposed to be family orientated. And they have got team uniform.

The way Rotorua does it seems to work great. No entry half hour before racing starts unless you have a wristband. The kids get to see the cars and meet the drivers before they put on their race faces, as long as an adult is with the kids, its great. Would hate to see a price added to gain entry before racing. Can understand the concern about drivers familys during racing but you have to draw the line somewhere I guess. Thats a hard one.

Its a hard 1, when i was a little tacker i used to bust a gut to go down see the cars. As a racer now its cool to see the kids, but its quite a dangerous place and no 1 wants to see anybody get hurt..

Speedway is a family sport but don't beleve that the pits is the place for kids . Who is responsible for their safety if something gos wrong , How is a driver goin to feel (god forbid) if you run a wee one over ? . Good way for a club to make money . Think it needs alot more thought .

Oh here we go again the old pits verses Kids senario 19 years ago when we were contracted to Waikaraka we had to get special permission from the committee to have my new born twins allowed in the pits in the tow vechile!! Three years ago when they had the NZstockcars one of those twins wasnt allowed in the pits because she was pregnant lol figure that out and she did have a wrist band on!! Let alone that Allen was chased through the pits after the meeting becase he walked past the security guard with our 5 year old in tow, trying to get back to load up his car!! Now I think its hilourious that they are going to open up the pits to anyone that is prepared to pay $5. To be honest good on them it is no doubt a money making thing but it cracks me up that after 20 years of making evryones life a misery for $5 we could have had an easy if not stress free night!!

And Deano I have bought 8 kids up through the speedway scene and none of them have ever been in a near miss situation in the pitts!! We have raced at pretty much every track in NZ and all of them are happy to give our kids wristbands as long as they are in our care. I would never go down the pits without holding their hands and putting them in or on our trailer and thats where they stay!! until I leave again!! Ive seen more adults nearly get run over! But I think most people know my view on this!! And Wanganui does not have a closed pits so kids are more than welcome! And Woodford Glen has never had a problem giving me wristbands for my kids either !! Thats the deal we make before we arrive we just ring them up and let them know that we have kids with us!!

Here in Gisborne, no kids under 12 are allowed in the pits after 6.30pm. Everyone else has to have a pit pass. There are even some young ones over twelve that can be a nuisance. There is nothing worse than trying to back your race car out of your park and having to try not to run over some of those kids that are just playing around in the pits. I can see someone getting hurt if this is not policed properly. It would be great to see kids of all ages helping out with the cars (while under supervsion), but as always, it is the few that have ruined it for many.

"And Wanganui does not have a closed pits so kids are more than welcome" I specifically emailed Wanganui to ask this and was told that there were no children under twelve allowed in the pits. I don't think letting everyone who pays $5 in to wander aimlessly is a good idea not only as a safety issue but also a security issue. But given the choice I would pay $5 to have my children not wandering aimlessly but based at a car

Think i need to clarifiy my no kids in pits . I think that kids that are brought up round speedway have a far better understanding of whats what than those that come along to watch . I have no prob with the speedway kids been in the pits with mum and dad but firmly beleve that if those that come along to watch should only be in the pits before or after the meeting . As we all know speedway is a dangerous sport and we don't need anymore accidents .

I think this is a good idea. This previous season, I have seen two seperate incidents that would have been avoided if common sense had prevailed. In one of the circumstances, a child had run through an (imcompetently) manned pit gate, and was frighteningly close to being scooped up by a Sprint Car. In another incident, A large group of teenagers were nearly taken out by a field of ministocks coming back into the pits at the opposite end of the pits. $5 for pit passes isn't asking too much, and I think you should have to provide a good explanation as to why you should be in the pits while racing is on (if you aren't pit crew, or an official). No reason, NO ENTRY! At Ruapuna, the pits are open before the show starts, and immediately after the conclusion of the meeting. Is this not the case at other tracks?
