Appreciate it's non-speedway related BUT it does affect us all. Cellphone use to be illegal as a driver from 1 Nov. Hands-free allowed. 20 demeret points and $80 fine.
I can visualise a raft of accidents resulting from folk braking suddenly, pulling off to the side of the road, possible stopping in a dangerous area.

the fine could be worse if the blue hats catch you on the track with it Murray

What a crazy country we live in , all this time and money to bring in a new law, surely it could have been handled under dangerous or careless use of a car.
its a goodun, but what a long and windy road to get there.

i thought there was already a law, where that you were not allowed to do anything that distracted the driver or that required the driver to take a hand of the steering wheel. pie eating etc. i dont have a road code handy but i'm sure that its there, or use to be.

What a crazy country we live in , all this time and money to bring in a new law, surely it could have been handled under dangerous or careless use of a car. Dangerous or careless driving only applies when something happens. You can use your cellphone without being dangerous (albeit some people seem unable to!) This new law takes it one step further, outlawing cellphone use regardless of whether use of the cellphone results in dangerous/careless driving. I do think it is hard to enforce and that the purpose of the law is to bring to the public's attention the dangers involved in cell phone usage while driving. This is further reinforced by the unsubstantial fine of $80. Sure beats another $200,000 education tv advertising campaign.

Bloody good idea IMHO. I wish something similar was introduced here in the US. I do a lot of driving all over the US as part of m job and I've lost count of the number of times I've seen bad/dangerous driving only to find the driver's on the phone or texting. No doubt the civil liberterians will be bleating though

Had the ban here for over 12 months now. Great, I was always sick of stuck behind someone on the motorway, weaving about because they were too busy trying to text someone.

Did you have lights and sirens on?
Absolutely! Thats an encroachment on our right to freedom of speech! ;D
What good is having a cellphone if your not allowed to whinge about what 99% of the country agrees with when behind the wheel? ;D
I'm kidding BTW - I know civil libertarians have absolutely no sense of humour when it comes to getting some free speech right back at them about what THEY do!
