Is anybody else finding the same thing?? Occasionally, as with many sites, I find a page unavailable, super slow, but mostly, a second is all it takes.

Seems normal to me at all hours, although any site issues may be being offset by my actual phone line being an issue - no voice and its a wonder the net is working at all, and the ape-descended cablepullers they currently use as techs at Chorus totally succeeding - on three separate occasions - in their endeavors to completely fail to fix it. (Sorry, two separate occasions. Just found out that they put their third attempt in the too-hard file with the header "Client cancellation") I am getting totally sick of telling them that the burglar alarm is NOT the problem with the line, and that I of all people should know as I'm paid good money to debunk that particular myth. But I digress...
I suspect localised net issues may be at play since most sites I use tend to slow right down at certain times. Check with Telecom, although they'll probably tell you to check your burglar alarm before bothering them again.

LOL, We have been having problems in our part of Town with broadband dropping out , The net has been running normally most of the time and dropping out so pages have been taking an age to load, We have had a Tech out about 6 times now and it is still doing it sporadically, we had a call from telescum yesterday and the person on the phone said it is quite normal for the net to "drop out" up to 4 times an hour (insert Tui ad), Obviously telescum are trying to wipe their hands of the problem....typical

What gets me is that the first guy that called around - experienced or not is immaterial but I was happy with his fault finding methods - reported the fault was off site - I'd already done the internal wiring checks because they're the same checks I'd do when checking alarm monitoring 'faults' so all he had to do was trace back from the demark to the pole, and then to the next part of the network. That being done, it got referred to another division. 5v on the incoming at the demark was pretty conclusive that it wasnt the internal wiring causing the problem I don't get dropoff at all, and although a lot slower than what I'd expect, the net's been reliable all the same. All the same, for those who don't know much about how net is affected, if you DO suffer from slow net, try unplugging everything you can - including sky decoders, alarms (though most alarms are hard wired, with the exception of the FAI and some other wireless models) faxes, phones, filters etc and try again with the modem only. Often the faults are caused by things being connected, or worse still, too many things being connected to the line at once.
